She agreed?Wang Keru started laughing. Her nose was a little red, and the delicate makeup on her face had smudged, but Gu Anxi found this moment quite genuine.
In the end, they ordered two bowls of simple vegetable noodles at a small restaurant near the hospital entrance. A white, tender egg lay beside the vibrant green vegetables; it looked quite appetizing.
Gu Anxi had already eaten dinner, but she slowly finished the entire bowl of noodles. Once done, she looked up. "Why aren’t you eating?"
Wang Keru was used to extravagant meals and usually couldn’t stomach such simple fare. But since Gu Anxi had asked, she ate every bite, no matter how unappetizing it was.
After eating, Wang Keru offered to buy her a gift, but Gu Anxi declined.
Wang Keru seemed a bit dejected, murmuring, "That’s right. Why would you want the Qin family’s money?"
She composed herself. "Take good care of yourself from now on. Mom... is pretty useless. I wasn’t good to you in the past, and I can’t help much now either."
As she spoke, she reached for a cigarette again, but noticing Gu Anxi’s gaze, she put it away.
Gu Anxi continued to look at her. Wang Keru, thoroughly annoyed, crumpled the cigarette pack and tossed it into the trash can. "Fine, it’s thrown out! All of it! You’ve been a fierce little thing since you were small."
"Smoking is bad," Gu Anxi said softly, then turned and walked into the hospital.
Wang Keru shouted after her, "Gu Anxi, I’m telling you, don’t learn from that little hussy Shen Wanqing! Living with a man at just twenty will get you looked down upon."
Gu Anxi’s steps faltered. She turned around, a faint smile on her lips. "Mom, your imagination is running wild!"
Wang Keru wanted to say more, but Gu Anxi quickly disappeared into the night.
She stood there alone, mulling over what had just been said, then her face filled with stunned disbelief. "Anxi called me Mom... Anxi called me Mom again..."
She laughed and cried like a madwoman at the hospital entrance, oblivious to the passersby looking at her—
Anxi had called her Mom again.
Anxi... had called her Mom again!
When Gu Anxi returned to the laboratory building, it was already half-past ten in the evening. Bo Xichen was, for a change, sitting on the sofa watching TV. She went over to sit beside him, and he gently stroked her head. "You were gone for quite a while?"
Gu Anxi looked directly at him, then, yielding to his gentle touch, leaned against his shoulder. Her voice was very soft. "How about egg noodles for breakfast tomorrow morning?"
Bo Xichen looked at her. "Didn’t you say you don’t like noodles?"
"I suddenly do," she said, then stood up. "Uncle Bo, goodnight."
He sat on the sofa, watching her dart into her room. Hmm... Gu Anxi had truly settled in here. She was staying in his bedroom, while he had prepared a separate room for himself.
Early the next morning, Gu Anxi had vegetable and egg noodles. The ones Doctor Bo made were far tastier than those from the small restaurant. After breakfast, Feng Mian drove her and Bo Xichen to school. After dropping her off, they had to return to Beicheng for about two or three days.
The car stopped at the gates of Qing University, and Gu Anxi got out. Bo Xichen tossed her a set of car keys. "My car’s at the hospital. You can use it to get around!"
Gu Anxi caught them and didn’t refuse.
Feng Mian peeked a moment longer, then the car window slid up. "Such a considerate husband!"
Bo Xichen glanced at him. Feng Mian gave a fake smile and steered the car towards the airport. He put on his sunglasses and chatted as he drove, "Separating when you’re madly in love—won’t a day apart feel like three years?"
Bo Xichen lowered his gaze. "You talk too much."
Feng Mian chuckled and stepped on the gas...
