After he finished speaking, he looked particularly anxious, fearing Gu Anxi’s refusal. This was his first time being kind to a girl without expecting anything in return.Just as he was growing uneasy, Bo Xichen came out. The blond-haired boy, feeling somewhat embarrassed, instinctively straightened his back and tried to act nonchalant.
"Is he your friend?" Bo Xichen asked Gu Anxi, looking at the cake in the boy’s hand.
Gu Anxi’s gaze fell on the boy’s face, and she tilted her head. "Yes."
Then, she naturally took the cake from him. "Come in and share this cake with us. Have dinner here later; it’ll be a birthday celebration for me. My uncle is a very good cook."
Uncle?
A flicker of hope rose in the boy, only to be instantly crushed by Bo Xichen’s next move. He looped his arm around Gu Anxi’s shoulder. "Don’t call me uncle in front of friends."
The boy’s heart shattered again, but it didn’t matter as long as his goddess was happy. Besides, she had invited him to share cake and dinner with her. For the first time, someone treated him as a friend. He used to make friends through fistfights—even with the goddess (she beat him once!!! Beat him so badly his own parents wouldn’t have recognized him!!!).
Feng Mian, who was inside, was almost dying of laughter. Gu Anxi really had some nerve, inviting Bo Xichen’s romantic rival over and even making Bo Xichen cook. And Bo Xichen, with his good temper, just went along with it. He was truly spoiling her rotten!
As they all went inside, the "uncle" started cooking. Feng Mian brought over a small cake knife. "Time for our birthday girl to cut the cake."
Gu Anxi offered a faint smile, remaining quite composed. They had gotten to know each other through a fight, and he had gone out of his way to bring a cake, so it was only right to be hospitable.
The boy, in stark contrast, was trembling with nervousness but still tried to put on an air of someone who had seen the world. Feng Mian, who looked every bit an elite professional, took it upon himself to cut the cake.
The boy couldn’t help but ask, "You’re not a doctor, are you?"
Feng Mian chuckled. "I’m a lawyer." He tilted his chin slightly. "Gu Anxi, I’m your uncle’s personal lawyer, financial consultant, and general handyman."
Gu Anxi just said, "Oh."
Feng Mian, still grinning, added, "And after you two get married, I’ll be your handyman too."
Gu Anxi thought: Can we please stop messing around?
The boy looked on with admiration. "A personal lawyer, huh? Sounds really impressive. So, what exactly is Doctor Bo’s background?"
Feng Mian placed a small piece of cake in front of Gu Anxi before replying, "That’s nothing. Doctor Bo has a legal team of over twenty people."
He blinked. "Doctor Bo is very formidable. Anxi, would you like to experience that in Beicheng?"
Gu Anxi...
The boy, again with a look of yearning, said, "Lawyer Feng, I want to experience Doctor Bo’s formidableness too! I want to go to Beicheng as well!"
Feng Mian was rather speechless. He thrust a piece of cake into the boy’s hand. "Just eat your cake!"
Honestly, was Doctor Bo’s formidableness something to be casually showcased?
Later, that meal was a mix of sweetness and sorrow for the boy. He had dined with his goddess, but the meal was cooked by her boyfriend...
When it was time to leave, the boy seemed crestfallen, reluctant to go yet knowing he had to. Feng Mian and Gu Anxi saw him off together.
The boy looked at Feng Mian. "Attorney Feng, can I become someone like you in the future?"
Feng Mian smiled. "Of course. Go study. Stop messing around on the streets."
The boy nodded, then shook his head. "When you’re in the underworld, your fate isn’t your own. A whole gang of brothers is counting on me to lead them."
Feng Mian chuckled. He figured the boy wasn’t so bad, not a complete menace to society, so he let it be.
The boy then looked at Gu Anxi, his gaze lingering. He said very softly, "Actually, my name is Zhang NiuNiu."
Feng Mian and Gu Anxi simultaneously lowered their heads...
Zhang NiuNiu. They wouldn’t laugh. Unless they absolutely couldn’t hold it in.
