This is the last thing Chen Mo said about the matter. After speaking, he fell silent for a while.
It seemed as though he had extricated himself from a dream that had already been tinged with a vague hue.
After a brief pause, he spoke again, reverting to his usual tone of voice: “Does it sound unbelievable to you?”
“After I woke up, I even went to see a psychologist. They said I was under too much stress.”
“If I hadn’t been blinded by my thirst for revenge and taken the effort to test those toxins... I might have just dismissed it as an ordinary dream.”
Ji Nian thought, that wasn’t a dream.
Only she knew that Chen Mo had truly traveled to another world, briefly inhabiting the body of an experimental rabbit, later named Algernon by her.
【System, do you know what’s going on?】
The System remained silent, only expressing shock.
Ji Nian accepted it well, though.
After all, she had transmigrated into a book. What else could be impossible?
“It sounds quite unbelievable.”
After a brief silence, Ji Nian picked up the conversation.
Chen Mo nodded, assuming the child was just humoring him by saying that: “...Sorry, it probably sounds like an excuse for not wanting to explain where the toxins came from.”
“No, I believe you.”
Ji Nian tilted her head and stood up from her chair.
She hid the complex emotions in her eyes well.
Why was her expression so complicated?
First, Chen Mo was the rabbit she had once taken care of.
Second, she had cleaned up his excrement and urine...
Ji Nian found it hard to face Chen Mo now.
Hearing Ji Nian say she believed him, Chen Mo’s eyelashes trembled slightly as he slowly lifted his gaze.
A brief flash of surprise flickered in his eyes before returning to calm, and a slight relaxation appeared at the corner of his mouth.
Chen Mo moved his lips, about to say something, when suddenly his vision clouded over. Everything became unclear, and the world spun around him.
He fell back onto the bed, his breathing gradually leveling out. Exhausted, it felt like his body had shut down, forcing him into a deep sleep.
Ji Nian had anticipated this. The emotions she had been suppressing surged up.
She couldn’t help but examine him closely, trying to find any trace of that plump rabbit from before.
His face was now so thin it resembled a spicy rabbit head dish.
Standing there, accepting the truth, she finally leaned over and pulled the thin blanket up over him.@@@@
...
Positioned like a king before, Wei Yang leapt to his feet, kicking the chair to pieces. Without hesitation, he struck his own right cheek, causing it to swell rapidly. Then, indicating for his men holding Chen Mo’s family to release them, he stood next to Number One and began panting heavily.
Ji Nian came down and saw Wei Yang with a bruised face, pinning down Number One and panting.
“Wei Yang Brother!”
She called out.
Wei Yang immediately let go, raising his head to look at her.
“Ji Nian, is it done? It’s fine, I can still hold on!”
He grinned broadly, tugging at the wound on his face, which made him hiss in pain.
Seeing that Wei Yang had been injured, Ji Nian thought she shouldn’t have lingered upstairs that long.
At the same time, she admired Chen Mo’s subordinates. Their skills were formidable, being able to injure Wei Yang.
“Wei Yang Brother, are you alright? Does your face hurt?”
The child’s concern made the mountain-like Wei Yang crouch down and bend over, saying, “I’m fine, I’m fine. What’s a little wound? It doesn’t hurt at all.”
Luckily, he didn’t have a tail, or it would likely have been wagging at breakneck speed.
Chen’s family: “.........”
Number Two: What the actual f***?!
Number One shot a glance at the person behind him. Immediately, Number Two stopped his cursing and, using Wei Yang’s distraction to ingratiate himself with Ji Nian, charged upstairs.
Noticing their small move, Wei Yang looked at Ji Nian, who shook her head.
“It’s done. We can leave.”
While racing upstairs, Number One worried about how Chen Mo was faring now.
Only Ji Nian had gone up; had the child been forced by Ji Tingzhou to make a choice?
Like choosing between her uncle or her father and then being forced to bring something to settle scores with Chen Mo?
Given how important Ji Nian was to Chen Mo, there couldn’t be a more devastating blow than her visiting him personally.
Simultaneously, Number One cursed the utter cruelty of the situation, forcing such a decision on a child. The psychological scars this would leave were unimaginable.
Apart from that, Number One couldn’t think of any other reason they would come here after discovering Cheng Mo’s identity as Vengeance.
The group rushed upstairs. Number One instructed the others to stand guard outside, entering with only Number Two.
As he turned the doorknob, his heart weighed heavily.
The door creaked open, Number One stepped inside, passing the outer room and heading towards the bedroom.
The bedroom door wasn’t closed, and upon drawing closer, the outline of a figure beneath the covers became visible.
The room was silent, and Number One could only hear his and Number Two’s breathing.
His heart hung in the air, unsure how he even lifted his feet to approach.
“Boss...?”
