Knowing that Chen Mo hadn't come, Ji Nian planned to call him using her watch during the big break.
When she returned from Country O, Chen Mo had come to the Ji Family home and specifically asked for Ji Nian's contact details.
He also teased Ji Tingzhou for being stingy, not even buying a phone for Ji Nian.
Later, Ji Nian explained that it was her own choice.
She had a tablet and a computer, and her watch was fully functional, able to make calls, send messages, watch short videos, and read novels, so it was very convenient to wear.
Before Ji Nian could make the call, she stepped out of the classroom and saw Chen Mo chatting with a passing teacher.
Seeing Ji Nian, Chen Mo ended the conversation and waved at the child.
Ji Nian walked over.
It wasn't clear if it was an illusion, but she felt like there was some kind of change in Chen Mo; although not obvious, it was something that couldn't be ignored.
Yet, she couldn't pinpoint what exactly it was.
Chen Mo still looked the same, with a beautiful face that carried an air of fragility and mystery, despite his gentle demeanor, which always gave off a sense of distance.
But now, his expression was incredibly soft when he looked at Ji Nian, to the point where one might think she was his own child.
Ji Nian glanced around, seeing no one nearby, and whispered, "Uncle, why did you take leave? Did something happen?"
Seeing her concern, Chen Mo's brows relaxed, and he bent down to slip a few cream-filled marshmallows into her hand.
"There are some things."
Ji Nian tilted her head.
"Didn't you say you wanted to come play with me, Uncle? I've prepared a surprise for you."
He blinked once.
The slightly playful gesture made his usually slightly cold countenance come alive.
Ji Nian suddenly felt that her dream might have some truth to it.
Because Chen Mo's expression seemed very similar to Chen Yueling's in her dream.
【Just because of this, he took leave...】
Ji Nian certainly didn't believe that.
"Uncle, the flu is really bad lately, are you feeling unwell anywhere?"
Ji Nian probed.
Chen Mo lifted the corner of his mouth and smiled.
"Our Nian Nian is really sensible, knowing to care about Uncle."
"Uncle is fine, don't worry."
At least on the surface, that was the case.
Chen Mo thought, feeling the muscle soreness.
Ji Nian nodded, promising to visit him this Saturday.
After chatting for a while, the child returned to the classroom.
Chen Mo stood still, watching her walk in and take her seat, then saw her yawn and peel the marshmallow he had given her, popping it into her mouth. The sweet taste spread between her lips and teeth, and the child unconsciously swayed her legs.
Seeing her happy, Chen Mo's gloomy mood seemed to lighten as well.
Knowing he didn't have many days left, Chen Mo cherished every opportunity to see Ji Nian.
Seeing her cautious appearance, Ji Tingzhou lifted an eyebrow.
"What?"
"You think I wouldn't let you go?"
Ji Nian blinked: "So, will you let me?"
Ji Tingzhou raised his chin: "Depends on my mood."
Ji Nian had been prepared for this. She couldn't explicitly say that she was going to see Chen Mo for a purpose, and she was afraid that Ji Tingzhou would be unhappy if he thought she was neglecting him by leaving him alone. So she had already prepared a gift.
From behind, she took out a small box and handed it to him.
"Dad, this is a handmade gift I made during today's art class, for you."
Hearing it was made by the child, Ji Tingzhou became a bit interested.
It was clear that Ji Nian had prepared the gift specifically for Ji Tingzhou, as the box was designed according to his aesthetic.
"What is it?"
Seeing the beautiful box, Ji Tingzhou's mood improved a bit, and he untied the bow and opened the box.
On black velvet, a felt figure appeared before him, recognizable as Ji Tingzhou from its black hair and green eyes.
The figure was a bit abstract, somewhat crooked, but the expression was very expressive, showing a haughty look, as if saying 'Have you washed your hands? Don't touch me.'
Ji Tingzhou: "......"
Was he like this usually?
Ji Nian peeked over and asked, "How is it, Dad? Is it similar? I made it one-to-one based on your photo, and Tangtang said it looks exactly like you."
Ji Tingzhou looked down at the 'scornful' little figure and struggled to say the word 'similar.'
Clearly, the little girl didn't inherit any of her father's manual skill.
Wei Yang passed by, glanced at it, and quipped, "Oh, the head of the family has a merchandise now. Who would dare to buy this? Placing it on the bedside would make you dream of being scolded for not washing up before sleeping."
Ji Tingzhou glanced at him, half-closed his eyes, and told him to come over.
When Wei Yang walked over, looking clueless, Ji Tingzhou had him turn around, then elegantly lifted a foot and kicked Wei Yang in the butt.
Wei Yang turned around abruptly, looking bewildered as he stared at Ji Nian: "Could it be... did I just say that out loud?"
Ji Nian nodded with sympathy.
Wei Yang covered his butt and ran off: "Head of the family! I'm sorry!!"
Ji Tingzhou turned to look at Ji Nian: "You also think placing it on the bedside would lead to such dreams?"
Every word carried a threatening tone.
Ji Nian, with her innocent green eyes, looked at her father and replied innocently, "How could that be, Dad? Actually, I planned to keep it for myself."
"When I'm at school and miss you, I'll look at this little figure. Dad, your face is so handsome; every time I feel upset, I'll look at it, and it feels like I have infinite motivation."
Ji Tingzhou caught the keyword and raised an eyebrow: "Upset? Who made you upset?"
Ji Nian immediately said, "It's a metaphor, I was just making an analogy."
Ji Tingzhou looked at her for a while, realizing the child was trying to please him. But, he couldn't help it; he was indeed pleased.
"Go if you want to. Am I that petty?"
Ji Nian shook her head immediately and gave a sweet smile. "Of course not, but Dad's opinion is very important."
"Thank you, Dad! I’ll bring you a gift when I come back!"
Ji Tingzhou said, "Just bring yourself back. That’ll be enough."
