Chapter 79: The Giant Bear

Words : 1268 Updated : Sep 25th, 2025
The Giant Eagles and Gandalf both served under Manwë, so perhaps the two would be more compatible. Otherwise, he could only consider the Balrog in the mines of Moria. But the Balrog's power was terrifying—even with all his might, Gandalf could only perish together with it. Kael had no confidence in using materials from its body to make a wand for Gandalf. He could only hope that the giant eagle's feathers would be compatible with Gandalf, or else Gandalf's wand would be indefinitely delayed. The giant eagles could speak human language. After hearing Kael's words, the Eagle King tilted his head, plucked a feather from his tail with his beak, and handed it to Gandalf. Gandalf didn't refuse the Eagle King's kindness, smiling as he patted his head. "Thank you, my friend." The Eagle King nuzzled Gandalf's hand, then spread his wings again and led the giant eagles back to the Misty Mountains. Gandalf watched the departing giant eagles and handed the tail feather to Kael. "I'm counting on you, Kael." Kael took the feather that gleamed with metallic luster, feeling the rich magic power within it. He nodded with satisfaction and asked, "How is it, Gandalf? Is this feather suitable?" If it wasn't suitable, they would really need to consider other wand core materials. Gandalf nodded and smiled. "It feels good. It doesn't resist my magic power." "That's great!" Kael breathed a sigh of relief. "Gandalf, Kael, come quickly!" the dwarves shouted anxiously. "Look at Thorin—what's wrong with him?" Hearing the dwarves' call for help, Gandalf and Kael hurried over. Under the nervous and worried gazes of the dwarves, Thorin lay quietly there, still showing no signs of waking up. "Let me take a look." Gandalf quickly crouched down and, after carefully examining him, found that Thorin's injuries were very serious. His expression immediately became grave. He was about to cast a spell to heal Thorin. "Gandalf, let me handle this," Kael said. He knew Gandalf couldn't easily use magic and didn't want to put him in a difficult position. He took out a bottle of potion and handed it to the dwarf Balin. "I have some Dittany essence here, perfect for treating external wounds." "I almost forgot you had potions, Kael. This will work much better than my healing spells," Gandalf's eyes lit up, and he no longer insisted on casting spells. Balin and the dwarves received it like a treasure, hurriedly applying the Dittany essence to Thorin's wounds with their hands and feet. Afraid the effect wouldn't be enough, they grabbed handfuls and applied it thickly. This made Kael's heart ache. These heavy-handed dwarves didn't know how to use it sparingly at all. Dittany essence was difficult to make, and they had used up more than half the bottle in one go. It was like selling the family farm without feeling any pain! The healing effect of the Dittany essence was rapid. Thorin's wounds healed completely in the blink of an eye, and he opened his eyes and woke up. When the awakened Thorin heard that Azog had been killed by Kael, he was stunned for a moment. His grandfather Thrór had died at Azog's hands, and his father Thráin II's death was also related to Azog. It could be said that he and Azog had a deep blood feud, wishing to kill each other. He hadn't expected this enemy to die just like that. After accepting this fact, Thorin solemnly thanked Kael for killing Azog. He also expressed his gratitude to Bilbo—if Bilbo hadn't stopped Azog's fatal blow to Thorin, he would probably be dead. The awakened Thorin was less arrogant and stubborn, and the entire team became more harmonious than before. Everyone descended from the Carrock and walked south along the Anduin River, planning to take the Old Forest Road through Mirkwood to reach the Lonely Mountain. But soon everyone encountered a huge wooden house. The wooden house was surrounded by thorn hedges like a city wall, with a tall wooden gate in the hedge. The wooden gate was wide open, revealing many wooden buildings, including granaries, stables, livestock pens, and beehives with bell-shaped thatched roofs. A broad road connected the gate to the innermost wooden house. The dwarves looked at this building with curiosity and wariness. "Gandalf, is the owner here friend or foe?" Gandalf's expression was somewhat grave as he looked around warily. "Neither. He will either help us or kill us." Everyone was somewhat speechless at Gandalf's circular logic. The next second, there was a huge commotion from the distant forest. Countless bushes were pushed aside like weeds, as if some enormous creature was charging through the forest. Accompanied by a deafening roar, a black giant bear as large as a small mountain appeared. Its massive footsteps sounded like heavy drums, and the earth seemed to shake as it ran. "My goodness!" Everyone's eyes widened in disbelief. "Run!" Gandalf shouted loudly, immediately turning to run toward the wooden house. Seeing the menacing giant bear in the distance, everyone didn't hesitate and immediately ran for their lives. The giant bear roared at this sight and chased after them. At the last moment, everyone narrowly escaped into the house and closed the door. But the dwarves were still very uneasy, nervously peering outside through the cracks and saying in terror, "Gandalf, this wooden house can't possibly withstand the giant bear's strength. What should we do?" Once inside the house, Gandalf relaxed and said casually, "Don't worry. As long as we're inside the house, we're safe. He won't attack this house." "He?" Bilbo noticed that Gandalf used "he" to describe the giant bear. "Gandalf, do you know this giant bear?" "I think this giant bear must be the owner of this house," Kael said. "That's why Gandalf said the giant bear won't attack the house." Gandalf nodded with a smile. "Kael guessed correctly. Although the giant bear might be hostile toward us, he definitely won't destroy his own house. So as long as we stay inside here, we'll always be safe." Then, as if he were in his own home, he found a place to sit down. "Alright, it's getting late. Everyone should rest early. We'll talk about other things tomorrow." Everyone looked at each other upon hearing this. After all, there was still a giant bear eyeing them menacingly outside—who would dare to truly relax and sleep soundly? What surprised everyone even more was that Kael also followed Gandalf's lead, skillfully using Transfiguration to create a sleeping area, then lay down comfortably to rest. He looked completely without pressure. Seeing this, everyone could only temporarily set aside their worries and rest on the mattresses Kael had conjured. After all, they had experienced so much today that each of them was exhausted. Hogwarts Check-in System: Location detected—Beorn's House. Check in? Lying on the soft mattress, Kael saw the system's response and was immediately delighted. "Check in," Kael silently recited. Check-in successful. Congratulations on obtaining Animagus Transformation! Animagus Transformation? Kael's eyes immediately lit up. This check-in was truly a pleasant surprise. [Chapter Complete] *** Want more?
