Except for the scattered feathers, Su Chen found nothing. However, when he saw the creature’s body covered in scorch marks and its wide-open eyes in death, his heart trembled inexplicably!
"Why does it smell burnt, as if it was scorched all over?"
Su Chen paced slowly, gently stroking the surface of the creature with his hand, "It’s not burnt, it’s been struck by lightning."
He frowned deeply, then involuntarily turned to look at the giant beast.
But as he turned, he was nearly terrified out of his wits!
The terrifying beast, which had shown no signs of life, was now slightly opening its eyes, staring fixedly at him! Those eyes, glowing with a greyish-white light, appeared hollow and merciless, yet seemed to hold a determination to destroy the world.
Su Chen’s back was instantly soaked in cold sweat. He stood motionless, not even daring to take a deep breath.
What to do? This creature isn’t dead yet, will it suddenly attack me desperately?
Thoughts raced through his mind as cold sweat formed in his palm, and time silently passed amidst the dead silence.
It no longer has the strength to attack. Su Chen finally noticed a sign. If the giant beast still had strength, it couldn’t have stared at him for so long without taking action. The only explanation was that it only had the strength to stare at him.
Having a bit of assurance, Su Chen stepped forward, taking two steps.
As expected, the giant beast continued to stare at him with empty eyes, its breath in the nostrils so weak it seemed like a small boat about to be swallowed by the ocean.
Standing beneath it, Su Chen looked up at the giant beast’s body from which blood kept flowing and said softly: "I have no ill intentions towards you, I’m just taking a look, please don’t mind."
As he spoke, he stretched out his hand, a slight smile on his face, towards the crystal-white sphere exposed under the creature’s belly.
Holding the crystal-white sphere, Su Chen felt a surge of joy. It seemed this risk wasn’t taken in vain; at least he found a treasure.
He carefully examined the blood-stained sphere.
The sphere was about half a meter in diameter, with a crystal-white surface interspersed with some milky yellow horizontal stripes. Holding it in his arms, he seemed to sense a faint energy fluctuating within.
"I don’t know what this is. It’s so heavy, what if I can’t take it back?"
Su Chen started to worry, yet he moved toward the shore, figuring he’d take it back first, no matter what.
Holding the sphere, he leapt meter by meter, landing on dry ground each time, facing no trouble on his way. Watching from the shore, Yue Xianling sighed in relief as she saw he was unharmed.
But just as Su Chen was only four or five meters from the shore, an unexpected event occurred.
A seemingly sturdy ground suddenly flipped up high, propelled by some strange force!
Su Chen was startled, but he was already mid-air and could only flip sideways, using his back to cushion against the hard piece of earth smashing down. Thump, thump, thump, the earth hit him, creating a series of muffled sounds, but fortunately, the sphere wasn’t damaged.
Su Chen was forcefully knocked flying, landing by the shore. He curled up, holding the crystal-white sphere protectively. Gritting his teeth, he turned around to see a fierce crocodile rapidly advancing toward him!
"Senior Sister, run quickly!"
Su Chen was shocked, urging loudly!
Yue Xianling was already frozen in fear, staring blankly at the approaching crocodile with a pale face.
Knowing escape was impossible, Su Chen abruptly stood up, placing the sphere steadily on the ground!
Staring directly into the fierce crocodile’s eyes now close at hand, he swiftly picked up the short sword he had left by the shore. With a thought, a blue wind attribute aura instantly gathered at his body surface, transforming into a protective shield.
The giant crocodile had already crawled close, its gaping maw revealing two rows of sharp, cold teeth, viciously biting towards Su Chen’s head!
"Su Chen, dodge quickly!"
In that critical moment, Yue Xianling frantically shouted!
Su Chen, however, suddenly kicked off the ground, making a sudden lateral move, explosively shooting out. With the wind attribute aura propelling him, his speed instantly more than doubled, shooting right under the giant crocodile’s mouth!
The short sword emitted a faint blue glow, gathering all of Su Chen’s strength, and fiercely stabbed into the crocodile’s lower jaw!
Squish!
The short sword pierced through the crocodile’s lower jaw, stabbing out through its head, spraying a shower of blood!
But the crocodile, driven mad by the intense pain, became even more violent and frenzied. It twisted its massive body, causing Su Chen to be flung up into the air. Losing his balance mid-air, Su Chen held tightly onto the short sword, using the crocodile’s twisting force to spin around several times before, at the moment the crocodile paused, suddenly pulling out the short sword!
Poof, another burst of fresh blood shot out, almost turning Su Chen into a blood-soaked person. Seizing the moment the giant crocodile threw back its head and roared, he leapt onto the broad back of the giant crocodile without hesitation!
"Su Chen, no!"
Seeing his desperate stance, Yue Xianling was so anxious that tears gushed down her face as she screamed at the top of her lungs!
But Su Chen was already on the back of the giant crocodile. He found the fatal spot where its round bulging eyes protruded, and without hesitation, thrust his short sword down!
"Roar~!"
The giant crocodile howled, its whole body twitching and flailing violently. Su Chen gripped the short sword tightly, which was embedded in the crocodile’s eye socket, causing him to spin and whirl in mid-air!
Feeling dizzy and lightheaded, Su Chen used all his strength to protect his body with Beast’s Qi Energy, clinging tightly to the short sword. Finally, when the giant crocodile stopped, he released his grip and slid down slowly from its back.
The short sword in his hand was stained with the giant crocodile’s fresh blood, and his body was already covered in blood. Su Chen looked like a warrior returning from the battlefield, expressionless.
Yue Xianling’s expression transformed from sadness to joy, her face a mixture of emotions, as she finally took off in a run towards Su Chen at lightning speed!
"You idiot, don’t you know it’s dangerous to do that? Why did you still go for it?"
She pounded Su Chen’s shoulder desperately, tears streaming like rain.
Seeing the rare look of worry and fear on Yue Xianling’s face, Su Chen for some reason felt a willingness to die for her. Being pounded by those soft little hands, he felt very comforted.
After pounding for a while, Yue Xianling suddenly hugged him, crying, "You fool, did you risk your life to save me? I forbid you to do that again..."
Su Chen felt as if he’d been struck by lightning, his body rigid, allowing that soft and gentle figure to cling to him, while the short sword in his hand slowly slipped to the ground.
After holding each other for a long time, Yue Xianling stopped sobbing, wiped her tears, wrinkled her nose, and said, "Let me see if you’re hurt anywhere?"
Su Chen stepped back half a step, smiling, "I’m fine, senior sister. I’m all good."
Yue Xianling glared at him, stubbornly inspecting him from front to back carefully, and only then did she break into a smile, "Consider yourself lucky. If you were injured, I wouldn’t forgive you."
Su Chen smacked his lips in secret, thinking, saving you yet you’re so fussy? But thinking she’s just concerned about him, he couldn’t help but feel a trace of joy.
"Senior sister, let’s go check out that treasure."
Yue Xianling nodded, pulling Su Chen towards the crystal white sphere. Su Chen squatted down, looking at the intact sphere, and laughed, "Good thing it’s alright; otherwise, it would have been a huge loss."
"Hmph, you greedy guy, you’ll suffer a loss sooner or later."
Yue Xianling rolled her eyes at him.
Su Chen didn’t mind, grinning, "I wonder what it is, it kind of looks like an egg, doesn’t it?"
"Hehe, it is an egg, you dummy!"
Yue Xianling laughed coquettishly, tapping Su Chen’s head, "Look at its center, it’s semi-transparent, while the rest is pristine white."
"So it is..."
Su Chen said half a sentence, the rest stuck in his throat, as he widened his eyes, looking at the distant corpse of the giant beast.
"That’s right, it’s the egg of that Spirit Beast."
Yue Xianling said softly.
Su Chen swallowed, forcing a smile, "Really? It’s its egg, and just now we were battling that monster bird?"
"Maybe that monster bird came to snatch its egg?"
Yue Xianling had a thoughtful expression.
Su Chen thought for a moment, then could only nod, "So, senior sister, should we still take it?"
"Of course, why not take it? It was hard to get, and it’s the egg of such a formidable giant beast; not taking it would be a waste."
Yue Xianling flashed a brilliant smile, "Besides, it’s homeless now; we might as well be its temporary parents?"
Su Chen’s face turned red all of a sudden, but his heart felt sweet. Parents? Doesn’t that mean with senior sister...
The two of them sat by the shore, guarding the egg. The clouds in the sky slowly dissipated, giving way to a dim hue. The entire grand valley suddenly became silent.
