"What should we name it?"
Su Chen held his chin, pondering thoughtfully.
"How about Manman?"
Huo Yunfei giggled mischievously.
"Why call it Manman?"
"It was born so late, isn’t it slow? Slow sounds bad, so let’s call it Manman."
Huo Yunfei looked at the little beast crawling toward the Cangyun He, her eyes full of affection.
Su Chen nodded, "Let’s go with your suggestion, hehe."
The Cangyun He flapped a few meters back again, seemingly reluctant to get close to the little beast, but since it had hatched it itself, the little beast kept trying to get closer. The two spirit beasts were playfully chasing each other around Mei Peak.
After watching for a while, Su Chen said, "Fei’Er, we should head back. The selection event starts tomorrow, and I need to train."
Huo Yunfei gave a small sigh and reluctantly tore her gaze away from the little beast, saying with a hint of sadness, "I wonder when we can come back to see Manman again."
"We need to take it with us. If there’s no one here to look after it, won’t it starve?"
Su Chen laughed.
Huo Yunfei’s face lit up with a hint of joy, "Great! So where should we take it?"
Su Chen thought for a moment, then had a sudden idea, "Why not leave it with Senior Sister Ling’Er? She’s not cultivating and has plenty of free time every day."
Upon hearing this, Huo Yunfei’s heart unexpectedly sank, and her eyes turned a little red for reasons unknown. Seeing her change in expression, Su Chen hurriedly asked, "What’s wrong, Fei’Er?"
"I’m fine... Su Chen, let’s head back..."
With that, Huo Yunfei lowered her head and walked toward the iron chain bridge without another word.
Su Chen watched her lonely silhouette, wondering to himself what was going on.
They quickly returned to the square the same way they came.
As they parted, Huo Yunfei turned to look at Su Chen and the little beast Manman in his arms, whispering, "Su Chen, I’m heading back now. Goodbye..."
Su Chen nodded silently, feeling a bit downcast inside. He sighed quietly and also headed toward the Phantom Moon Pavilion.
As night fell, the small wooden house was silent, interrupted only occasionally by a few snores, which momentarily disrupted Su Chen’s thoughts.
He lay with his hands behind his head, staring at the wooden ceiling, and thinking about his parents whom he hadn’t seen in over three years, a faint bitterness rising in his heart. To erase past humiliations, to restore his father’s good name, and to bring glory to the Su Family clan, he could only keep all his longing buried deep inside. Though he still thought of them every night, Su Chen reminded himself that only after achieving great success could he return to see his parents.
The night passed quickly, and when the first light of the sun entered the small wooden house the next morning, Su Chen opened his eyes. To his surprise, he discovered that everyone was already gone.
He rolled off the bed, got dressed, and slowly walked out of the wooden house.
"They’re pretty fast, aren’t they?"
A hint of amusement tugged at his lips, and his gaze toward the square was full of a thing called confidence.
On the square, hundreds of Carefree Sect disciples had already gathered.
The morning sun, slightly warm, spread across every corner of the square, as if coating the ground with a layer of golden powder. The nine bronze giant cauldrons, roped off with red cords, formed nine equally sized rectangular competition arenas. Around these arenas stood a mix of young and older disciples of the Carefree Sect.
Although these young disciples weren’t participating in the selection event, they paid close attention to the new talents emerging among their junior brothers and sisters. Especially since they’d heard outstanding prodigies were among this batch of disciples, their interest was piqued even more.
"I heard that the young guy under the senior brother, named Su Chen, is quite formidable, though I’ve never seen him in action."
A burly, tiger-headed young man commented.
"Heh, the one under the third senior brother, Long Fei, isn’t bad either. In three years, he’s gone from an ordinary person to a Four-star Beast Spirit. That beast cultivation talent, tsk tsk tsk..."
The speaker was a long-haired youth with a gentle face, clearly favoring Long Fei.
"I wonder what sparks would fly if these two faced each other?"
The burly young man was excited, as if he was the one competing.
At this moment, a group of tall teenagers wearing training uniforms passed by, led by a fair-skinned, arrogant-looking boy who chuckled, "This senior brother must be joking. Do you think someone who doesn’t practice all day can compare to Brother Long, with his natural talent and diligent training? Let me tell you, that kid wouldn’t last five minutes against Brother Long!"
The teenagers burst into laughter and swaggered off, leaving the burly youth looking at them in astonishment.
"Aren’t those guys under the third senior brother? Why do they always have to form cliques every day..."
On the square, the Carefree Sect disciples were roughly divided into five groups, each led by the five favored disciples of Yue Dongbei and Wen Ruyu. These were the senior disciple Chang Zhichun, the second disciple Niu Yuanshan, the third disciple Leng Xing, the fourth disciple Bai Yun, and the fifth disciple Lanshang. Bai Yun and Lanshang were under Wen Ruyu’s guidance, responsible for leading the female disciples of the Carefree Sect.
Today, aside from the hundred-odd participating disciples, others here were mostly spectators. Most were of mid-to-low strength; otherwise, they wouldn’t have time to watch the competitions. Those with mid-to-high strength were still engrossed in their training. However, amidst the crowd, there were indeed a few experts present to spectate. Although some planned to leave the sect in a few years to join the Celestial Peak Sect for advanced Cultivation Techniques, the care and nurturing they received from their sect over the years still held a special place in their hearts.
In the crowd, a young man in a white long robe gazed at Su Chen standing straight as a javelin on the first arena, a glimmer of intrigue flashing in his eyes.
"This guy seems to have a very special aura about him."
He murmured to himself, a hint of inexplicable anticipation on his handsome face. In his memory, a tall and majestic figure seemed to slowly appear, causing his expression to briefly lapse into a trance.
