Chapter 1013: Chapter 1011 Going to Town to Visit
Wang Yongzhu was lying on the kang bed, and for some reason, a picture suddenly appeared in her mind: years later, Song Chongjin would be crying and sniffling, asking her, "Tell me, do you have someone else outside?"
And she, with the look of someone who didn’t care, would impatiently push Song Chongjin’s hand away, shamelessly saying, "What are you daydreaming at home all day? When I’m outside, it’s all just acting! Acting, you know? You’re the one I truly love..."
Wang Yongzhu was disgusted by this scene herself, and quickly shook her head to dispel it.
The lamp was already out, but as the weather was hot nowadays, the windows were half open at night, letting the night breeze in, adding a bit of coolness.
Through the window, the moonlight spilled onto the bed canopy. Song Chongjin felt Wang Yongzhu move, turned over, embraced her, and patted her back: "What’s wrong? Can’t sleep? Don’t worry, I’ll find out everything about that girl from the complete family. The weather is so hot, when you go to town with mom tomorrow, be careful not to get sunstroke. Have lunch at the restaurant; after all, after the hundred days are up, we’ll have to observe mourning, and mom can eat some meat again. She was sick and ate vegetarian for so long, why don’t you order two dishes that nourish her body for her tomorrow."
"The matter of Yingzi Gully, don’t worry either. Go to town first tomorrow, ask around the Zhang family and Lee family members who stayed behind, and see what’s going on. If something’s really wrong, let Fourth Brother go under the pretense of collecting mountain goods, it won’t delay anything. Sleep easy, I’m here!"
This is because he thought Wang Yongzhu was worried and couldn’t sleep, so he was comforting her.
Wang Yongzhu chuckled, knowing that though Song Chongjin might be jealous, he understood the importance of real matters.
Well, isn’t coaxing him a little fun between couples! After all, it’s my husband, no matter what, I must keep him happy!
With this thought, Wang Yongzhu nodded and agreed, resting her head on Song Chongjin’s arm, she drifted off into a deep sleep.
Waking up the next morning, Wang Yongzhu felt as if her neck was about to break. Looking at Song Chongjin’s face that pretended to be unfazed, yet the arm behind her that kept twitching told the story of his discomfort.
Couldn’t help but want to vomit with complaints! I don’t trust those romantic novels at all! They can be harmful!
What a ridiculous idea that waking up in a lover’s arms is such a happy thing!
Happy, my foot! I’ve got a stiff neck, and Song Chongjin’s arm is probably useless after being under me all night.
Luckily, Wang Yongzhu had the Physical Enhancement Technique, did a couple of exercises, and managed to alleviate the neck pain to some extent.
Song Chongjin also performed his technique, making his arm feel less numb. Seeing Yongzhu looking distressed, he quickly used his other capable hand to press a few acupoints on the back of Wang Yongzhu’s neck, finally relieving her neck.
After breakfast, they set out; Song Chongjin was still worried, asking Wang Yongzhu to visit the medical clinic in town.
Wang Yongzhu agreed wholeheartedly, leaving Gu Yu home to cook for Song Chongjin.
After the family split, for the first two days, because the third and fourth houses, along with the main house, relied on Lady Jiang from the third house to help greet guests, they ate at their place twice.
After that, cooking for oneself seemed better. The Wang brothers were filial, and whenever there was something fresh from home, they would make it and send a share to the backyard, which was their heartfelt gesture. But it didn’t seem right to eat every day at their place.
Moreover, they weren’t short of money, buying white rice, flour, and all sorts of daily essentials when they returned.
Lacking greens, Lady Jiang and Liu Xiaoqiao, being industrious, opened eldest brother’s vegetable patch next to the courtyard; there were more than enough vegetables, and every morning, they picked the best ones to deliver to the backyard.
She gave Gu Yu a few words of advice, told her to stay home, cook well for Song Chongjin, deliver the food over, and don’t disturb him.
The other children in the Wang Family, seeing Jindou going to town with grandma and aunt, wanted to go too.
Although the Wang Family was well-off nowadays, and even had a carriage, trips to town were always business-related, leaving no room to bring children.
The children were sensible, never asking to join.
But observing the situation today, they figured a trip to town wasn’t for business, and their hearts were moved. Jinguan and Jinhua, being older, scooted over to the carriage.
Jinguan dared not approach Old Granny Zhang and Wang Yongzhu, so he tugged at Jindou, "Brother, what are you going to do in town?"
Could Jindou say he was going to town to look for a wife? So, with a stern face, he replied, "You kids needn’t concern yourselves about what we’re doing. Of course, it’s something important!"
Thinking for a moment, seeing his siblings’ pitiful faces, he couldn’t help but add, "Be good at home, I’ll bring back snacks for you all!"
Jinhua dared not pester Old Granny Zhang and only tugged at Wang Yongzhu’s sleeve, "Aunt, Aunt, you’re going to town? We want to go too—"
Wang Yongzhu felt the kids were sensible and since they wanted to go to town, it wasn’t an issue. But with today’s matter of secretly looking, she wasn’t sure if bringing so many kids was appropriate.
She had no choice but to turn to Old Granny Zhang.
Old Granny Zhang initially disliked the idea of a crowd, but thinking it over, bringing more kids had its perks. If anyone asked, she could say they were taking the children on a sightseeing trip to town; otherwise, bringing just Jindou alone looked conspicuous.
The main reason, of course, was that seeing her daughter look so yearningly at her, reminded her how long ago those days were.
Now her daughter had grown, more capable than herself, and often she listened to her daughter’s advice. But didn’t expect today to see her daughter so obediently; even if it was the stars in the sky, she would agree! Not to mention such a small matter?
So she nodded immediately.
The children went wild with joy, racing to the carriage to squeeze in. Even little Jinshao tried to climb onto the carriage as he watched his siblings scrambling up.
Old Granny Zhang scolded them, "What do you all look like? Look at what you’re wearing! Barefoot, running wild, all of you, go back and wash up nice and clean, change into fresh clothes, then come out! If someone isn’t clean, don’t even think about getting on the carriage!"
As soon as she finished her sentence, the kids scattered like birds and beasts, rushing back inside to wash hands and faces and change clothes.
You can’t really blame these kids; other than Jinhua, who as a girl, dressed a bit tidier, most boys around that age would run around bare-chested and barefoot.
Kids in the countryside aren’t too fastidious; they’re hardy and robust.
Especially in such heat, those young lads, when adults weren’t watching, would sneak to the river to swim, naturally wearing as little as possible.
For families where parents couldn’t keep track, there were even four- or five-year-olds running around stark naked.
At the end of a summer, rural girls and boys would all be tanned like dark mud eels.
