"Who are you?" Mobai stared at this unfamiliar face, who was wearing a Qualcomm Electronics badge. He looked like he must be an employee of their own company, but how could a regular employee dare to barge into a shareholder meeting and even behave so casually?
"Boss, this man seems to be Berlaines, the President of our Qualcomm Electronics labor union," Mobai's assistant whispered.
"The President of the union?" Mobai sneered, "Get out! Do you think you can just walk in here whenever you like? Who is your leader? You can just get out right now!"
"Hahaha!" Berlaines burst out laughing, "Dear shareholders, since I have entered this shareholder meeting today, I had no intention to continue working here.
Yoji Zetan's gaze lingered on Berlaines for a moment, he suddenly had a bad feeling. The surrounding companies had just raised salaries, and there had been some changes in the employees' moods. Now the President of the union had arrived—what good could come of this?
"What exactly do you want to do?" Mobai also calmed down, his demeanor clearly showing an attitude of nothing to lose, and this Berlaines definitely had something to say.
"Mr. Mobai, Mr. Yoji Zetan, as the President of the Qualcomm Electronics union, I came here today representing the collective voice of our 7000 production line workers," Berlaines said with a smile, "You must also be aware that all companies in the Silicon Valley towns have implemented salary increases, going up as much as 100%. Our Qualcomm Electronics employees also demand an increase at this rate!"@@@@
"You're dreaming!" Mobai thought of Berlaines's intentions as soon as he knew his identity, but he still couldn't help but curse loudly. Talking about wage increases with them, the capitalists, wasn't this essentially asking for their lives?
"Mr. Mobai, please, don't be angered. This is only the first request from all our employees," Berlain spoke with the phrases "all employees" repeatedly, positioning himself on a moral high ground, "You might want to hear the other voices of our broad workforce."
"Alright, you speak, I'm all ears!" Mobai responded with a laugh instead of anger, in this nation that champions freedom, employee protests, strikes, and even demonstrations were all very normal. Since its establishment, Qualcomm Electronics had encountered several similar incidents.
But as the saying goes, 'for every clever move, there is a countermove'; as long as the capital remains in the hands of these capitalists and as long as each employee needs to make a living, they will inevitably submit to capital. This is a truth tested through hundreds of years of history.
Feeling confident, he believed he could resolve even the most complex situations.
"Hahaha, Mr. Mobai truly is a Chairman, your demeanor is indeed different," Berlaines gave Mobai a strong compliment, "Then I shall speak!"
"Are you threatening us?" Mobai slammed the table.
"Mr. Mobai, our employees have the right to strike, and I believe our demands are reasonable and contain no element of threat. If you think our demands are unreasonable, you may choose to fire us."
Fire them? It was a joke!
If this had been America a few years ago, only company executives would have employment contracts, and firing an employee only needed a single word without any financial compensation.
But two years ago, America revised a new act; if an employee is to be dismissed, even if they have not completed one year of service, a month's wages must still be paid as compensation.
Berenice just mentioned that he represents 7,000 people! In their company, some employees have worked for over ten years; if 7,000 people were fired, their company could shut down directly.
Even if they had the money, the departure of 7,000 employees could halt the company's operations, which would not possibly recover for three to five months.
Zhang Menglong could afford to do this because he was not afraid of losing money, but there was only one Zhang Menglong! His method of suppressing strikes could not be replicated by anyone.
"Humph! Strike, don't you all need to live?" a shareholder sneered.
He had encountered strikes more than once, but due to the pressures of life, few strikes lasted until the end, and it was always those striking workers
"I'm not afraid to tell all the shareholders that our union recently received a sum of financial support. During the strike, our union will provide double the salary to all participating employees as a subsidy, until we obtain what we want!"
"Double the salary? Where do you get so much money from?" the shareholders exclaimed.
"A gentleman who heard of our plight sponsored us a sum of money," Berenice said, "He is a great socialist!"
