Even if a Tier 7 entity sought to ensnare them, she could slip through the fabric of reality itself, ensuring their escape. Rex gazed through the reinforced viewport of their transport ship, his gaze sweeping across the desolate expanse before them. The system was a graveyard of crimson hues, a world bathed in eerie, blood-like light, its surface cracked and barren. The only illumination came from a lone white dwarf, its pale glow casting long, skeletal shadows across the dead planet. "Are you sure these are the coordinates?" Rex muttered, skepticism lacing his voice. "Not that I'm doubting you or anything, but... there's nothing here. Just a hellscape that looks like it crawled out of a nightmare. Who in their right mind would live here?" Zynaria's crimson eyes flickered with data streams as she processed the readings. "Affirmative. The coordinates are precise. Her fingers danced over the console, deploying stealth drones toward the planet's surface. "Initial scans indicate subterranean movement. It appears they reside beneath the crust." Rex exhaled sharply. "Underground. Clever. No wonder their world looks like something straight out of a horror holo-flick." His fingers tapped restlessly against the armrest of his seat before he suddenly stiffened, spotting movement in the distance. "Hey, Little Red..." He pointed toward the viewport, where sleek, dagger-like fighters were streaking toward them. "You absolutely sure you sent the right signal?" "Affirmative. They should be the escor—" A shrill alarm blared through the ship's systems. [Warning. Multiple missile locks detected.] Zynaria's body tensed, her instincts flaring. "Not good. Young Emperor, come here!" Before Rex could react, she yanked him toward her, her arms wrapping around him in a vice-like grip. His face was abruptly smothered against the soft warmth of her chest as space itself rippled around them. A fraction of a second later, the missiles struck. The transport ship's shields might as well have been paper since they dissolved instantly under the barrage, the vessel erupting into a fireball of molten debris. As the flames dissipated, a sleek, predatory frigate shimmered into visibility, its stealth systems disengaging just meters from the wreckage. Inside the frigate's command deck, a female figure draped in black armor observed the destruction with cold detachment. One of her subordinates knelt before her, and with his voice laced with reverence, he spoke. "My Lady, the intruders have been eliminated." The woman's lips curled into a smirk until her senses prickled. "No. They escaped." Her fingers tightened around her goblet of freshly spilled blood. "I felt the distortion of a spatial displacement. They're already on the surface." The planet was a labyrinth of hidden fortresses and kill zones. Without guidance, the fugitives would never breach the underground sanctuaries. But that didn't mean they were safe. "Issue a command," she hissed. "Activate the bounty network. Release a kill order on all outsiders. Grant the Fledglings and hunters full purge authority. I would rather bathe this world in innocent blood than let a single rat slip through." The assassins bowed and vanished to carry out her decree. Once she was alone, the woman reached into her pocket, retrieving a small, obsidian device. With a press of her thumb, a hologram flickered to life with an ancient-looking grandma perched upon a throne of bleached skulls, her eyes burning with malevolent intelligence. "Elder..." The assassin prostrated herself. "Your Ancillae has fulfilled her task. However... there has been a complication." The Elder's voice was a dry, venomous rasp. "I know. They yet breathe. I sense their presence upon the world." A pulse of coordinates flashed across the device. "Find them. Finish this. Do not fail me again." The transmission severed, leaving the assassin in silence while her fingers curled into fists. Somewhere on the blood-soaked surface below, Rex and Zynaria came out from a space crack. "I knew it! handing them over to the fucking Blood Clan was a bad idea!" Rex snarled, his fist slamming into a jagged boulder with enough force to reduce it to dust. "This wasn't a mistake! it was a goddamn setup!" Zynaria's crimson eyes flickered with diagnostics as she assessed their situation. "Young Emperor, the disruption is worsening. My spatial travel systems are being actively jammed, and scanners are unreliable. Another teleportation attempt would be... inadvisable." She reached into her dimensional pouch and retrieved two sleek black coats lined with pulsing red neon circuitry, handing one to Rex. "We locate an entrance. The orbital scan I took before our descent will serve as our map." Rex grunted while pulling an oxygen mask from his golden storage circle. Even with his Kaelzar bloodline granting him resilience, prolonged exposure to this toxic wasteland would wear him down. "Fine. But if we run into any of those bat-faced freaks, I'm not shaking hands." Days passed in a blur of motion. They sprinted across the rust-colored wastes, never stopping, never slowing. Rex exhaled. "Alright. Let's move. If this is a merc town, there's gotta be someone who knows how to get underground." But as they stepped forward, a shadow detached itself from the alleyway ahead. A figure, clad in Blood Clan insignia, smiled like a predator recognizing its prey. The figure stepped forward, their Blood Clan sigil glinting under the sickly glow of the fungal lights. A jagged scar ran down his face; it was a deliberate mark of loyalty, carved in ritual. "You're far from home, outsiders," the agent said in a low, menacing tone, his fingers drumming against the hilt of a serrated dagger. "The Ancillae wants you alive. But she didn't say... intact." Rex's grip tightened on his concealed weapon. "Yeah? Tell your Ancillae to get in line. I've got a list of people who want a piece of me... most of them prettier than you." Zynaria's voice cut through the tension like a blade. "Young Emperor. There are seven more. Two on the rooftops. Five in the crowd." Her pupils dilated, combat subroutines flooding her systems. "They've been tracking us since we entered." The vampire laughed with a wet, gurgling sound. "Clever machine. But it won't save you." A whistle pierced the air and the marketplace erupted in chaos. Bat-folk merchants screamed, scattering as hidden Blood Clan operatives lunged from the shadows. Daggers dripped with paralytic venom. Guns hummed to life, charged with searing crimson energy, the Clan's signature hemo-rounds, designed to liquefy organs on impact. Rex moved first. His nanomachine pistol morphed mid-draw, expanding into a brutal plasma rifle. He fired without aiming with a wild, sweeping shot that forced the rooftop snipers to duck. "Little Red! Doorway on your left, go!" Zynaria's barriers flared, deflecting a hail of gunfire. "Negative. I prioritize your survival over retreat." She seized a stall's metal support beam, ripping it free with a screech of twisting metal, and swung it, crushing two assassins into the sandstone walls. The lead vampire snarled, slamming a fist into his chest. "Let's see how you deal with our clan drug!" His veins bulged black while his muscles contorted as enhancements surged through him. He then blurred, closing the distance in a heartbeat with his dagger aimed for Rex's throat. But Zynaria intercepted him at an incredible speed. Her hand clamped around the agent's wrist, crushing bone. But the vampire grinned, spitting a mist of acid blood into her eyes. Her optics fizzled, systems scrambling making a half-second of vulnerability. Rex's boot met the vampire's ribs, sending him skidding back. "Oh, you bitch—" He raised his rifle to finish the vampire off but then a new voice boomed across the square. "ENOUGH. A mountain of a man clad in scavenged power armor stomped forward, flanked by a dozen battle-scarred mercenaries. His tri-barreled shotgun rested on his shoulder, the muzzle still smoking from the warning shot he'd fired into the air.
