He wanted to communicate with the consciousness of the plane. Based on the timeline, Tang San's millennia long plan should have been set in motion back in Soul Land II. This so called "millennia plan" involved attracting the Abyss Plane to invade the Douluo Star, allowing Douluo Star to consume the Abyss Plane and thereby upgrade itself.
