Yet when disaster struck as long as the doors and windows were secured the vast majority of monsters could not break through the steel barrier. According to the First Law the young enter the safe house first while the elderly follow behind someone shouted to the crowd. The people who had been somewhat restless immediately lined up in an orderly fashion but the safe house clearly could not accommodate everyone as there were thousands. Thus some of the elderly were left outside the safe house. They did not protest but instead took the weapons at hand and waited in nearby wooden and brick houses close to the shelter. Once the monsters began their assault the city's warriors would never be able to defend every inch of territory and inevitably scattered zombies would break into the city. As if triggered by a signal Rosen stepped out of the building and saw that on the walls surrounding the sky above the city dirt and stones were being dislodged and falling to the ground. The passageways that had been sealed or tampered with were now compromised by the sound of cannon fire. Countless monsters were drawn by the sound as mindless creatures appeared on the platforms outside the city and on the walls. Rosen had once descended from those platforms himself. Then with a pattering like falling dumplings the first wave of zombies dropped down and died instantly. Their numbers were too great and at night they became even more alert. If it were not for this the fact they were already underground would have made silent control unnecessary. Although the first wave of zombies was wiped out those were ordinary zombies. Some larger zombies fell and though they appeared severely injured they still retained their fighting ability. As more zombies kept falling some ordinary ones that landed on piles of corpses revived and from an aerial view zombies were seen sprinting from all four directions of Ming City. The underground city looked like a small boat adrift in a storm filled with helplessness. In just a short while thousands of zombies had fallen and the number kept increasing. "There are too many, what is happening? A normal nest of corpses could never gather so many zombies. Where did those pirates bring so many zombies from?" Alice frowned as she stood on a high lookout on the city wall scanning in all directions. "Lisa the monsters in the south are the second most numerous take the warriors to hold that position. The east has the most and there seem to be a few big ones leave them to me and the Vanguard Army." Alice ordered after a quick glance. Ming City's total combat strength including warriors and able-bodied individuals was only about fifteen hundred at most. It would not be easy to hold back these thousands and even more zombies. All they could do was ensure that most of the monsters would not enter the city while those few that did would have to fend for themselves. "Be careful." Hodman said gravely to Alice as he watched the monsters sprinting toward the front of the wall. That side of the monsters was his responsibility. "This is not the first time It is no problem. Watch me chop off their heads." Alice declared as she patted her waist and the daggers that had been stuck in the pirate corpses shimmered into view at her side. Hodman commanded while gripping a large sword. With veteran strength he swept his blade in a wide arc and decapitated a group of zombies not far away. In an instant the flames of battle were ignited. A monster siege and defense battle had begun and fire blood and smoke spread throughout Ming City in moments. "What are you doing here?! Go to the safe house." Rosen shouted as he walked along the city streets. The commotion was too great for him to sit still and he was not one to wait idly; he was used to assessing the situation and taking the initiative. A little noise was one thing but this sounded like the entire city had erupted into battle. He and Pitas followed the city roads toward the area where cannon fire and battle cries were most intense. Along the way they saw Natalie darting across the rooftops busily at work. "There are a few monsters lurking near the North Gate! I must deal with them or everyone in the city will be in danger." Natalie said with a glance at Rosen as she hurried off without stopping. "What a silly kid." Rosen muttered with a slight smile as he bit his cigar and quickly followed after her. For an eight-year-old she already showed remarkable responsibility.
