Jolthar stopped his attacks; the explosion continued for a couple of seconds, and the dust covered where the bodies fell. Johamma was breathing raggedly; her injuries weren't fatal, but she still stood with determination. Her gaze never leaving where Lodawg stood. As the dust cleared, there was a barrier circled around Lodawg. He was standing in the midst, unscathed. "Impressive," Lodawg conceded. "But raw power alone isn't enough, boy. Experience counts." Jolthar stepped forward, positioning himself between Lodawg and Johamma. The three energies swirled around him in perfect harmony, responding to his will without conscious thought. Knashii hummed in his hand, eager for more blood. "Experience?" Jolthar replied, his voice deadly quiet. "Let me show you what true power is." He moved with sudden, explosive speed, crossing the distance between them in an eye blink. Knashii met Lodawg's barrier, which he erupted in between them in a snap, with a sound like thunder, blue energy clashing against the older man's magic. The impact sent shockwaves through the clearing, uprooting smaller trees and churning the lake's surface into violent waves. Jolthar's aura flared on the barrier, and it was bounced off into waves around them. Lodawg stumbled back, eyes wide with genuine surprise. He'd expected power, but not this level of skill, not this level of strength. The air grew heavy, charged with power as Jolthar stepped forward. "You talked enough," Jolthar said, voice resonating with old authority. Lodawg stood up, patting his robes. And then suddenly, there was a shift in the mana around him. As a Tier 9 Grand Mage of the Naemarys clan, power radiated from him in dark crimson waves. "You are an arrogant boy," Lodawg sneered, drawing his staff. The staff, ignited with a crimson magic symbol etched along its length, blazed to life. It was a special type of wood from which the staff was made, a conduit powerful enough to wield his mana. Jolthar didn't waste breath on further words. He struck first. Silver voidwrath lashed out like a whip, slicing through the air toward Lodawg's throat. The Naemarys mage parried with his staff, the collision sending sparks cascading across the clearing. Trees shuddered as the shockwave rippled outward. Jolthar's aura was flaring up as he struck him. Lodawg was startled by this discovery. Even though Jolthar had just fought a dragon, his aura was still increasing. Even more, Jolthar seemed like an excited child who got a new toy to play with. Seeing such, Lodawg clicked his tongue, annoyed. Lodawg counter-attacked with frightening speed, incanting ancient words as he thrust his free hand forward. A barrage of flaming spears materialized and hurtled toward Jolthar. Green energy flared as Jolthar's telekinesis seized the ground before him. A wall made up of soil erupted upward, intercepting the spears. The projectiles exploded against the barrier, sending dirt and stone fragments flying. Through this cloud of debris, Jolthar charged, blue phantom blades extended. He slashed at Lodawg's midsection, forcing the mage to leap backward. "You've had some interesting development since the last time I saw you," Lodawg acknowledged, circling. "But I've spent decades mastering the magics." The Grand Mage slammed his palm into the earth. Crimson energy spread across the ground in jagged patterns. The ground beneath Jolthar's feet heaved and split, forcing him to leap as fissures opened like hungry mouths. Jolthar somersaulted through the air, green telekinesis cushioning his landing. He pivoted and sent a concentrated blast of silver voidwrath streaking toward Lodawg's chest. The mage deflected it with a hasty crimson shield, but the impact drove him back several paces. His boots carved furrows in the soil as he skidded. "Impressive," Lodawg growled. "But watch closely, boy. This is what true mastery looks like." Johamma watched with concern; her grandson was doing really fine, but she wasn't sure about Lodawg. Earlier, when she fought him, she had sensed the dark magic. It was faint, but Lodawg was using the dark magic of Rax'ashs. It was clear to her that he may have had contact with them. That was why she was worried. Lodawg began a complex incantation, crimson energy spiralling up his arms as his voice rose in volume. The very air warped around him, reality bending to his will. His magic, suitable for his stature of tier 9, responded to him, and the change in mana made his surroundings tremble with power. Jolthar recognized the danger. His Beast King's instincts screamed a warning. As a Tier 8, he lacked Lodawg's depth of magical knowledge, but what he lacked in magic, he made up for in raw power. He had his sword skills, and it was enough for him to take down Lodawg. The green energy intensified around Jolthar, responding to his silent command. He was enhancing the power of telekinesis with the green energy of the beast king. With a sweeping motion, he telekinetically uprooted a massive oak tree and hurled it toward Lodawg. The mage's concentration broke as he was forced to abandon his spell and dive aside. The tree crashed through where he had stood, splintering against the ground. Before Lodawg could recover, Jolthar closed the distance. Silver voidwrath gathered around his fist as he drove it toward the mage's face. Lodawg barely managed to raise a crimson barrier. The voidwrath shattered it like glass, though it absorbed enough force to save him from a killing blow. The residual energy caught him across the cheek, opening a deep gash that sizzled with silver energy. The wounded mage snarled in pain and rage. "Enough games!" He thrust his staff upwards, chanting a spell. Crimson lightning arced from his staff, coalescing into storm clouds above. Thunder boomed as magic-charged lightning rained down, striking at Jolthar from every angle. Green telekinesis flared as Jolthar deflected bolt after bolt, redirecting them into the ground. The ground blackened and cracked with each impact. Trees at the clearing's edge caught fire, filling the air with smoke. One bolt slipped through his defence, searing across his shoulder. Pain lanced through him, but he refused to falter. "Is that all you got, Naemarys?" Jolthar taunted, noting the strain showing on Lodawg's face. "Is that the power of a Tier 9 grand mage?"
