Although He Wei’s handcuffed hands were covered up, those who knew the inside story were aware that the people around He Wei were police officers.
As they passed by the president’s secretary office, the people inside continued their work but kept glancing towards He Wei.
Anxiously, He Wei spotted his secretary in the crowd and smiled at her as he walked and stared at her for a moment.
This startled the young secretary. She was originally sent by He Mingsheng to monitor He Wei, and she couldn’t refuse!
If He Wei intended to drag her down with him...
No, she needed to find a way to save herself. Thankfully, she had kept a wary eye out back then, and there might be more evidence against He Wei on that SIM card!
But to whom should she hand it over? To He Mingsheng?
No, that’s not right. Although she was placed by He Mingsheng, she somewhat understood him. He appeared a bit rigid on the surface, but the fact that He Wei had been under his control for so many years showed that he was deeply calculating.
Earlier, she heard from her colleagues in the secretary office that the online leak this time was exposed by Huasheng, so she...
That’s it, she decided to contact someone on that end. After all, she had some connections over the years.
While everyone’s attention was on He Wei, the young secretary quietly slipped away. Once she reached the other side of the crowd, she turned around and sped towards the fire escape.
He Wei kept his eyes on her and naturally noticed her disappearing figure in the stairwell. Once again, he slowly curled his lips, mocking He Mingsheng in his heart.
I wonder when his cousin will realize that there’s a wolf in his midst? Either way, it no longer concerned him, as he still had to face investigations from the tax department and legal trials. He had no time to worry about others.
With that, He Wei followed the plainclothes officers into the car parked at the company entrance, headed towards Su City’s Police Bureau.
The young secretary, who had arrived downstairs earlier, watched the vehicle leave and then waved down a taxi by the roadside. After getting in, she provided an address, and the driver took her there.
Upon arrival, she quickly paid the driver a hundred yuan and hurriedly got out of the car.
"Hey, young lady! I haven’t given you your change yet!" The driver leaned his head out the window, shouting at the quickly departing young secretary.
The young secretary didn’t look back, "Keep it!"
The driver shook his head, "In these times, you meet all sorts of people." Still, he felt pleased for the extra earnings, and with no further thought, the driver drove away.
The young secretary rushed towards a residential building. It was an old-style community, each building no more than seven stories high. Her destination was on the seventh floor of one of these buildings.
Finally reaching the seventh floor, she caught her breath and knocked on the door to her right.
"Who is it?"
A hearty male voice came from inside.
"It’s me, Wang Xin."

The lock clicked open from inside.
"Sister Xin, what brings you here?" asked a short but stout man—the same voice from within. "Come in and sit down."
The two walked inside, and the stout man led Wang Xin to the sofa. After she sat down, he went to the kitchen to pour her a glass of warm water, then awkwardly scratched the back of his head and said, "Sister Xin, all I have is plain boiled water. I haven’t received my salary this month, and I already spent last month’s... haha."
Wang Xin was slightly speechless. Why was he telling her this? She didn’t care about that.
Ignoring the man’s embarrassment, Wang Xin got straight to the point,
"Are you still working at the same place?"
The man was momentarily stunned, then nodded, "Huasheng? Yes, why?"
Wang Xin continued to ask, "Can you get in touch with Yu Xiaozhe?"
"Yu Xiaozhe?!" The man’s voice was filled with shock.
"Yes, him."
The man shook his head. Although he was a department manager, he was only the department manager of Huasheng’s branch in Su City. How could he possibly have the president’s contact information?
Wang Xin grew anxious and was about to leave. Since the man couldn’t help, she needed to see if anyone else could connect her to Yu Xiaozhe.
"However, I do have Zhang He’s contact information; will that help?"
Wang Xin had just stood up, but hearing the man’s words, she sat back down.
Yes! How did she not think of that? Yu Xiaozhe was also an actor; by contacting Zhang He, she could naturally reach Yu Xiaozhe. She was too anxious and had forgotten about it.
"Please give me her contact info. Thank you! I’ll treat you to a meal next time."
The man opened his phone contacts, found Zhang He’s number, and forwarded it to Wang Xin. Curiously, he asked, "Sister Xin, why do you need to contact President Yu?"
He remembered Wang Xin was an employee of Mingsheng, and even He Wei’s secretary. Why was she seeking Huasheng’s boss? Was she planning to switch jobs?
Wang Xin got Zhang He’s contact info and was about to leave. Upon hearing the man’s question, she replied, "Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t!"
The man watched her departing figure, shrugged with a pout. If they weren’t childhood friends, he’d never have bothered just because she was He Wei’s secretary.
He Wei didn’t have a good reputation in the industry; exploiting artists, shady contracts, a notorious reputation, even not sparing his own artists.
Giving Zhang He’s contact to Wang Xin was his way of repaying her for helping him out back in school. Not dwelling further, he quickly tidied up to take a hot shower—he was exhausted from the long day and needed a good rest.
With Zhang He’s contact in hand, Wang Xin took a cab back home after leaving the residential area. In less than thirty minutes, she arrived at her upscale apartment in Su City.
Once home, she kicked off her high heels and eagerly dialed Zhang He’s number.
It was already midnight; not only was Wang Xin still awake, but Zhang He was also working overtime, dealing with evidence of Mingsheng’s illegal activities obtained from Zeng Xu.
At that moment, Zhang He had just finished speaking with Zeng Xu and was preparing to report the information to her boss. After a busy day, she would finally get some rest once this report was done. The day had worn her out! She resolved to demand a raise from that penny-pinching Yu Xiaozhe!
As Zhang He grumbled internally, her phone rang suddenly. Momentarily dazed, it took her a while to realize her phone was ringing.
Zhang He took her phone out of the suit pocket and glanced at the unknown number. At this hour, it was unusual to receive a call from an unfamiliar number.
Rubbing her delicate chin, Zhang He answered the call.
"Hello, this is Zhang He. Who’s calling?"
Wang Xin was just about to hang up and redial when she heard the slightly raspy, smoky voice from the receiver.
What a sexy voice.
That was Wang Xin’s first thought upon hearing Zhang He’s voice.
However, now was not the time for such thoughts; the priority was addressing her safety issue.
"Sister Zhang He, hello. I’m Wang Xin, formerly He Wei’s secretary."
Zhang He arched her elegant eyebrows, as if expecting this.
Indeed, someone from Mingsheng.
