"It was just that day...the day my parents had their accident. I’m not sure if the person responsible for downloading the records was too busy to do it correctly." Richard Townsend sprang from the sofa: "I’ll go look for it right now. Those broken computers must be there; our parents can’t die unjustly. Once we find the evidence, I’ll tear that beast apart." After hanging up, Richard called everyone at home, and they all went to the warehouse to look for the computers. After Faye Townsend hung up, she felt a bit uneasy, as if something was bound to happen. It was ten o’clock; both children were asleep, yet Hunter Warren hadn’t come back. Thinking back to the serious expression Hunter had when he received a call during lunch, Faye was a bit worried. She sat on the bed’s edge and sent Hunter a message: "Still busy?" It wasn’t long before the message returned: "Still in a small meeting, I might be back quite late tonight." "It’s okay, I’ll wait for you." "You should sleep first. If I come back too late, it’ll affect your sleep. Maybe I should just stay at a hotel for the night." Hearing that he wasn’t coming back, Faye felt a bit forlorn. "Is the company’s issue serious?" "Just a small matter, it’s just a time delay." Faye looked at her phone, a bit frustrated. She lay on the bed, putting her phone aside. Seeing she didn’t reply, Hunter called directly. When she heard the phone vibrate, Faye looked sideways and saw it was a call from Hunter, a smile tugging at her lips as she answered: "Aren’t you in a meeting?" "I stepped out of the meeting room. They’re discussing, and I just need to go back in to hear the results. Why aren’t you asleep yet?" "Still waiting for you, aren’t I?" Hunter’s lips curved into a smile: "Stop waiting for me, rest early, and dream of me." "I don’t want to dream of you, seeing you during the day and dreaming of you at night, I’ll get tired of it soon enough." "Who’s getting tired of whom? Let me state first, I’ll never get tired of you. You’re my treasure. As Dad says, you’re something to hold in my mouth lest it melts, or hold in my hands lest it falls." Faye laughed: "Can I get tired of you?" "No, never in this life." Faye pursed her lips: "Have you felt like a lot has happened lately?" "Indeed, a lot’s been happening, why, feeling troubled?" "Yeah, a bit. I miss those days in Switzerland. Although busy and without you, life was peaceful and calm back then. Recently, I’ve truly felt mentally exhausted." "You don’t need to worry about anything, just leave it to me. With me here, even if the sky falls, I’ll hold it up. As long as we as a couple are united, no challenge is insurmountable." Hunter’s words immediately rejuvenated her: "Mmh." "Alright, rest now. So many people are waiting for me, goodnight." "Keep up the good work, and I’ll say goodnight for now." After hanging up, Faye rolled over, pulling the blanket up as she lay down. Uncle Rivers hadn’t come back yet, but it’s alright; matters at the old house can wait until tomorrow. Early the next morning, the first thing Faye did was go downstairs to find Uncle Rivers. Uncle Rivers was watering the flowers in the courtyard. Seeing her approach, he placed the hose down on the lawn and came over: "Miss, you’re up." "How did it go yesterday, did you find anything?" Uncle Rivers nodded: "Yes, Young Master removed nearly everything in the warehouse before finding a few computers in the corner." "Are they still usable?" "Young Master didn’t dare to turn them on hastily. He’s afraid they won’t boot and then there’d be problems. He plans to take them to a repair place, and if it doesn’t work, they’ll copy out the contents of the hard drives or whatever." Faye nodded in acknowledgment, glad that Richard finally handled something cautiously. "Alright, I got it. Thank you for your hard work yesterday, Uncle Rivers." "Miss, no need to be so formal." Faye gave a sweet smile: "Alright, I’ll go have breakfast and head to the office now." "Take care, Miss, don’t overwork yourself." "Mmh." By mid-morning, Oliver Turner came. Faye didn’t expect Oliver would take the initiative to find her. She always thought he was upset. The last time he and Clara got into trouble and ended up at the police station, he didn’t even speak to her when he went to pick up Clara. Once inside, he sat silently on the sofa. Faye found it quite awkward, and after Brielle Golden brought coffee and left, she broke the silence. "Oliver, what brings you here today?" "Time? Hmm, I should indeed be busy. Now Faye couldn’t stay calm, she stood up and looked at him: "Why did he find you? He doesn’t plan to trouble you, does he?" "Of course not, how would troubling me benefit him? Clearly, teaming up with me seems more likely. After all, Hunter Warren isn’t that easy to take down." Faye knew that, and was only asking to show Oliver she actually cared about this friend. At least by doing so, she hoped he’d consider their friendship when thinking about Lucas’s proposal. "That’s good," Faye pursed her lips. "That’s good?" Oliver raised his brows looking at her: "Aren’t you afraid I’ll really team up with him?" "In my heart, you’ve always been smart. You know what you should do. If you decide to team up with him, I won’t oppose you. I think you also understand Lucas’s nature and will make the right choice." Oliver furrowed his brows, looking hurt as he gazed at her. "Faye, do you know what I hate most about you now? It’s your detachment from my issues. Even when I’ve metaphorically got my hands on your throat, and you’re near suffocation. If only you’d ask me like before to help you, the outcome would be different. You know I’d drop everything to help you." Faye lowered her gaze with a smile, her hands clasped tightly together on the desk. Her lowered gaze showed a flicker of sadness, her eyes landing on the photo of Darnley and Miya on her desk, grinning happily, a stark contrast to her current feelings. As her gaze lifted slightly, her eyes unexpectedly met Oliver’s. "Because what you want...I can’t give." Oliver exhaled, turning his head with a half-smile: "I really want to know, how am I less than him?" "You’re great, in every way. You’d make a good husband and father. But...some women are just masochistic. They love someone and stay true to them. And I’m...that kind of masochistic person." Oliver took another deep breath and closed his eyes. Where else in the world could you find such an astute woman? She leaves no room to criticize her, despite understanding everything, unlike anyone wandering in ignorance. But the more she’s like this, the more pained he felt. "Faye, can we return to what we had? Before Hunter Warren." That’s what he hoped for in his heart, even if she just feigned it. "He’s always been there, from the start to now. If we were to return to a time without him, it’d have to be when I was fifteen." Oliver let out a short laugh, stood up, and nodded: "I see, Faye. Do you know when I most want to return to?" "Maybe...the day we first met." "Talking to such an astute woman; I never worry you won’t understand my thoughts. What a pity, Oliver Turner never had the fortune to become your husband." "Oliver, I’m truly sorry." She knew he understood her meaning; he was just unwilling to accept it. He thought persistence could bring him everything he desired. Yet, contrary to his wishes, even after six years of waiting, the result remained unsatisfying. She sometimes hated herself for having stirred trouble with Oliver back then. If not for that, they wouldn’t have reached this stage. They both wished they could return to the day they crossed paths. Faye was responsible for turning Oliver into what he was now. But she had no choice but to resolutely reject him. This was to prevent him from future heartache. Oliver stood up, his expression somewhat withdrawn: "Remember Faye, I will team up with Lucas Warren. Neither of us is targeting you; our target is Hunter Warren. From now on, I officially regard him as my enemy, my sole objective is to eliminate him." Faye gave a bitter smile: "And then what?" "And then? And then... I’ll compete with Lucas Warren fairly."
