Chapter 140: Chapter 139: How are the things invented by Yellow Emperor not serious? Nantang King’s Bedchamber Nezha sprawled leisurely on the enormous, soft bed, with Deng Chanyu and Daji lying on either side of him, flushed and breathing heavily. Daji pulled aside the sheer fabric, revealing her long, slender legs wrapped in black stockings woven with golden patterns. The stockings reached just above her knees, tightly hugging her legs and accentuating their alluring curves. Propping her leg in front of Nezha and examining it critically, she asked, "Nezha, who came up with this? No matter how you look at it, it seems far from proper." Deng Chanyu cast him a similarly questioning look, extending one of her own legs. Her stockings were longer than Daji’s, adorned with purple patterns instead. Nezha thought to himself, improper? Promoting harmony and connection among people is far from improper! Yet he didn’t say this aloud. Instead, he feigned solemnity as he placed his hands on their legs, rubbing them back and forth while maintaining seriousness. "Now, don’t speak nonsense. These were invented by the Yellow Emperor’s third uncle! How could you call them improper?" Forgive me, third uncle. I’m still young, and you’ve already made a name for yourself with rumors of ascending to immortality surrounded by three thousand concubines. Compared to that, this is nothing! Still, the material of these stockings... It felt so textured, cool, and sturdy when Nezha tried to tear them slightly—they were remarkably durable. Ahem, truth be told, these were gifts from said third uncle during Nezha’s last visit to Fire Cloud Cave. The bundle he presented left Nezha astonished at sight. One can only say: your uncle will always be your uncle. Daji and Deng Chanyu rolled their eyes in unison, having long since figured out Nezha’s personality inside out—unlike outsiders who easily fell for his antics. "Ah, if it’s such a remarkable item, I’ll ask my mother to appraise it tomorrow. These stockings, both comfortable and elegant, are bound to capture her heart!" Daji, with a mischievous grin, tightened her snow-white arm around Nezha’s neck and leaned close to whisper, "Nezha~ don’t you agree?" Deng Chanyu quickly chimed in, tilting her body against Nezha, her long legs slightly bent, stroking them while narrowing her eyes with a look of bliss. "Such treasures must surely be gifted to Mother, no?" Gifted? Gifted, my ass. If Lady Yin got wind of this, he’d have to pack his things overnight and flee the Primordial World, never daring to show his face to her again! The two women burst into silvery laughter at Nezha’s disgruntled expression. "Hiss!" "Ah!" "Looks like the two of you have rested enough!" After another round of absurd antics, the two women left to attend to their respective duties. The entire Nantang seemed to revolve around its two queens; rest might be acceptable here and there, but disappearing altogether wasn’t an option. Nezha, meanwhile, sprawled out and drifted into deep sleep in the chamber. He was genuinely exhausted! Through her connection with Lady Yin, Daji successfully obtained Yin Shou’s royal decree—the kind that equated to the presence of the king himself. The whole affair was somewhat comical: King Tang using a token personally gifted by the King of Shang to pull strings within Yin Shang. Regardless, the channels between Shang and Zhou were now fully opened, leading to a rapid flow of population from both nations into Nantang. These days, population was the most valuable resource. Great Shang had ruled as the world’s leader for five or six hundred years; no need for elaboration there. West Zhou, too, had begun careful management in its early years, evidenced by the defensive measures against previous Shang kings. In contrast, Nantang had always been at a disadvantage in this area. But now, after this turn of events, Yin Shang couldn’t hope to compete, and surpassing West Zhou wasn’t much of a challenge. Perhaps this was the manifestation of the Heavenly Mandate. With the increase in population came corresponding challenges, but Nantang’s comprehensive policies—thanks to Nezha’s excessively forward-thinking mindset—were well-equipped to handle them. Refugees? No problem—we’ll provide food and shelter. But the catch is: everyone must work. If each person has a job and a roof over their head, they’ll naturally settle down. The sheer amount of labor also ensured troublemakers had no energy left for mischief. Need a reason to work hard and earn that additional steamed bun? Let’s just say the people of this era were still relatively simple and honest. Couple this with the Taiping Heavenly Sect’s nightly educational sessions—essentially small stories shared in the evening—and the newly arrived refugees quickly integrated, developing a sense of belonging. Nantang was thriving. In contrast, West Zhou was still building its city walls. Ever since encountering the Asura Clan, it seemed they had developed a defensive inadequacy complex, abandoning land cultivation in favor of extensive fortifications. Build the walls higher, higher, and even higher! Thicken them more, more, and even more! The architects they hired from Nantang were professionals—the kind educated by Old Ancestor Nezha, who could construct sewers across the Primordial World. These builders were competent; with enough funding, they’d gladly extend your walls straight to the heavens. By the end, even the expansive Qi Mountain had been gouged out for materials to reinforce the walls. Long Xuhu, initially enraged to see his homeland desecrated, tried to intervene. But Ji Fa managed to coax him, touting ideals like "for West Zhou’s people" and "for the future of Zhou"—convincing Long Xuhu that sacrifices like soil and rock were necessary. The generally dim-witted Long Xuhu bought into the argument entirely and eventually became a leading figure in excavation efforts. While Long Xuhu was originally Old Jiang’s man, now being manipulated like an idiot by Ji Fa wasn’t easy for Old Jiang to stomach. Still, without continuing urban fortifications, Jiang himself couldn’t think of alternative solutions. Surveying the current sorry state of West Zhou made him increasingly doubt his teacher’s prophecy of the Heavenly Mandate favoring Zhou. Was "Prosper Zhou, Overthrow Shang" merely drunken ramblings? Unknown to him, this fate once genuinely existed—but now, no longer. Yet, no matter the circumstances, Jiang realized this path must continue. After surviving multiple setbacks—nearly dying in battle—his cultivation had fallen to the Golden Core realm, leaving him only marginally stronger than a mortal. With a five- or six-year-old son to care for, the eighty- or ninety-year-old Jiang couldn’t afford reckless ambition anymore. Repeated blows had left Old Jiang resigned to his fate—a bitter truth for men who bear familial burdens. If his teacher deemed earthly wealth his destiny, then so be it. He would gamble his worn-out body for his descendants’ future. Even if it meant destruction, his comradeship with his loyal junior brother assured him his family would be well cared for. At that moment, Old Jiang’s faithful junior brother was off seeking allies—to exact revenge on him. Unfortunately, despite the mounting chaos, Immortals weren’t stupid. Shen Gongbao scouted relentlessly but found no trace of the Immortals; they were all mysteriously absent. Defeated, Shen Gongbao had no choice but to rally military generals dispatched by Wen Zhong to attack West Zhou. But upon witnessing the towering, impregnable city walls, he was left dumbfounded. Shen Gongbao initially planned to force his way forward, but veteran general Lu Xiong persuaded him otherwise. Though Lu Xiong had little presence in prior Immortal battles, Shen Gongbao now couldn’t afford to disregard his sage advice. After one detailed explanation from Lu Xiong, Shen Gongbao—wise in his own right—understood the current impossibility of taking West Zhou by force. As a result, they resorted to yet another siege tactic, stationing troops outside the city while sending Sharp-Hearing Ear and Thousand-mile Eye, the brothers Gao Ming and Gao Jue, to gather intelligence. Upon learning that Chan Sect Immortals were absent and only a few Third Generation Disciples remained, Shen Gongbao grew invigorated. Leading his forces, he began taunting below the city walls.
