She had worked hard to turn them against each other, planting seeds of doubt, pushing wedges, doing everything to keep them apart. But it looked like her efforts were not enough. ’No,’ Riya told herself, scowling. ’This can’t be real. Nathaniel doesn’t love Zara. He made up his mind to leave her. This must be sympathy. She stole another glance at Nathaniel, casually sipping his drink as if he didn’t have a care in the world. Her stomach twisted with rage. Zara hesitated, caught off guard by the gesture. It looked so intimate. Her heart thudded in her chest as she stared at the fork, then at him. As if under a spell, she leaned in and took the bite. She found herself unable to look away from him. The rich chocolate flavor spread across her tongue, filling her mouth with sweetness. "How is it?" he asked. "It’s... good," she replied. Nathaniel’s eyes twinkled with mischief. Still holding the same fork, he cut another piece for himself and took a bite. "Hmm... sweet," he said with a seductive tone, his gaze still locked on hers. The way he said it, the look in his eyes—it was too much. Zara could feel the heat rising to her cheeks. "I-I need to use the restroom," she stammered, getting to her feet. She turned away quickly, not daring to meet his eyes, and hurried off. Nathaniel chuckled under his breath, clearly amused by her flustered retreat. He looked at Zane, who was busy eating his ice cream. "Do you like it?" he asked. "I love it," Zane gushed, his spoon diving back into the bowl. Zara entered the restroom and quietly made her way to the sink. Two women were standing near the mirrors, engrossed in conversation. She didn’t pay much attention at first, focusing instead on washing her hands and calming her racing thoughts. "I really thought he loved me again," one of the women said, sobbing. "He started showering me with gifts, planned spontaneous trips, and complimented me all the time. I was so happy until I found out about the other woman." She dabbed at her eyes with a tissue, trying to keep her voice steady, but emotion spilled through every word. Zara’s hands paused under the running water. She looked up slightly, catching the woman’s reflection in the mirror. A tightness grew in her chest. "That bastard," the second woman spat. "I kept telling you his sudden behavior change was not normal. He was distant for years, barely looked at you. Then suddenly he is romantic again. That was guilt. He was trying to cover his tracks while sleeping with someone else." "I just never imagined... after all this time," the first woman sobbed. "He has been cheating on me." Zara turned off the tap. She felt a sinking sensation in her chest as their words echoed in her mind. Unease began to settle in. Nathaniel had also started acting differently out of the blue. "That kind of sudden change usually means something is off. Men often act that way when they are trying to cover up an affair. He probably has someone else outside." Zara stared at them, her expression dazed. A storm of doubt began swirling in her mind, clouding her earlier happiness. She was confused, unable to process what she was feeling.
