Mortified, she turned away and hastily fixed her top, her fingers trembling. The sheer embarrassment of being caught by Zane in such an intimate moment made her want to jump out of the window and dissolve into thin air. Nathaniel caught sight of her flustered expression and couldn’t help but be amused. Turning to Zane, he marched over in a few swift strides and scooped him up. "You little rascal," he muttered, giving him a light smack on the bottom. "Don’t mess with the adults’ matters. Or else, I’ll send you straight to Grandma’s." Nathaniel carried him out of the room. Once inside Zane’s room, Nathaniel set him down and gave him a pointed look. "Alright, what’s this about? I told you to play. Why did you come looking for us?" "Then go get ready," he said, ruffling his hair. "I’ll get ready in no time," Zane chirped, darting toward the cupboard. Nathaniel watched him. Not long ago, Zane used to cling to Zara for every little thing—asking for help, whining for attention. But now, seeing him pulling out clothes confidently, Nathaniel realized Zane was growing up and becoming independent. With a soft smile, Nathaniel slipped out of the room, gently closing the door behind him. As Nathaniel returned to the master bedroom, his eyes immediately landed on Zara, seated stiffly at the edge of the bed. Although her face was turned away, her rigid and tense posture told him everything. It wasn’t hard for him to guess she was still mortified from the earlier interruption. He quietly turned the lock on the door, ensuring their privacy this time, before moving toward her. Zara flinched slightly at the sound of his approaching footsteps. She didn’t look at him, just shifted her face to the side, heat still crawling up her neck to her cheeks. She could feel him getting closer to her, and it only intensified the awkwardness burning inside her. She fidgeted her fingers on her lap and muttered, "That was so embarrassing. And it’s all your fault." Nathaniel blinked, caught off guard. "My fault?" He pointed to himself. "Who else?" she snapped, throwing him a glare over her shoulder. "You kissed me. Don’t you know Zane is around? How could you be so reckless?" Nathaniel didn’t answer right away. Instead, he stood there, silently observing her. The way her lips pouted in irritation, how her eyes flickered toward him but didn’t quite meet his gaze, and the way she tried to act stern but only ended up looking irresistibly flustered—it all amused him. He found himself utterly captivated by her. She wanted to argue. Fine. He would play along. He smirked and stepped closer, lowering himself until their faces were nearly level. "But you didn’t stop me," he said with a teasing glint in his eyes. "You could have pushed me away... but you didn’t. You kissed me back." Zara’s heart thudded so loudly it echoed in her ears. She didn’t back away, nor did she avert her eyes. His dark, magnetic eyes held her in place. He leaned in even further, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Why don’t you admit it? You liked it. You wanted it." A wave of heat washed over her. Her face flamed yet again, her stomach twisted with a mix of nervousness and desire. "Stop it," she breathed out, lifting her hands to push him away. But he was faster. His fingers wrapped around her wrist. Then, he guided her hand to his bare chest, dragging it slowly down over the firm planes of his torso. Her pulse fluttered like wild wings in her chest. "Can you stop now?" she snapped, trying to pull away, but he didn’t let go. Her attempts only made his grip firmer. "We can pick up where we left off," he rasped, his lips grazing the shell of her ear. The words sent a shiver racing down her spine. Her skin tingled. "Zane could walk in again," she reminded him. The mention of Zane jolted his memory. He had promised to take him out. Realizing his son was probably waiting, his grip instinctively relaxed, allowing Zara to slip her hand free. In the very next moment, she shoved him away. Nathaniel stumbled a step, just enough for her to spring to her feet and turn to leave. But before she could move, his strong arms wrapped around her from behind, holding her firmly against his chest. She could feel every breath he took, every muscle in his chest rising and falling against her. Caught in the overwhelming heat of his embrace, she stopped resisting. Flustered, Zara shot him a glare and raised a finger, ready to argue. He caught her wrist again and leaned down, slowly taking her finger into his mouth, his intense gaze never leaving hers. "I can’t wait to have you," he murmured huskily. "To make you mine again." Zara’s breath hitched. Her skin flushed from head to toe under his heated gaze. She quickly looked away, blushing furiously. "Aren’t we going out?" she muttered. "I need to get ready." Yanking her hand free, she turned and hurried into the bathroom, slamming the door shut behind her. She leaned against it, trying to calm her racing heart. Her entire body was buzzing. Nathaniel’s sudden change in behavior had left her spinning. For years, he had been distant, aloof, and emotionally cold. But now... he was playful, teasing, seductive. And that image of him sucking on her finger refused to leave her mind.
