326: Chapter 324: Rabbit Lantern 326: Chapter 324: Rabbit Lantern Yin Baishuang’s expression became slightly stiff, as if truly taken aback, “You can actually unseal her Qiankun Bag?”
Baili An didn’t understand why she was so surprised, as his Divine Sense had entered quite smoothly without encountering any resistance, “Is there something inappropriate?”
Yin Baishuang said, “It’s really strange, has she changed her nature?
When did she remove the Prohibition on this Qiankun Bag?”
Baili An also found it odd, “This ordinary Qiankun Bag containing a bunch of simple trinkets is really the item Miss Yin demanded?”
Yin Baishuang frowned, “What do I need these things for?
You take them out one by one and destroy them all, then I will let you leave today.”
Baili An thought it over; these were all things that could be found everywhere in the market.
If destroying them could exchange for a life, then let them be destroyed.
He shattered the windmill with Spiritual Power into bits, then one by one took out a Koi Paper Kite, a small boat woven from bamboo, wooden dolls, and colored paper happiness characters from the Qiankun Bag.
All of these were mundane items, effortless to destroy.
Until Baili An took out the last item.
An ancient Rabbit Lantern.
Tucked away in a corner, not easily noticed, so it became the last of the mundane items yet to be destroyed.
Compared to the well-preserved trinkets, this Rabbit Lantern appeared quite forlorn.
The thin paper was wrinkled and torn, and the frame seemed as if it had been crushed by something, haphazardly scattered.
The lantern looked like it had been through a lot, with traces of river dampness and rot at the bottom.
Inside the lantern lay two candles, one long and one short.
The short one had an unburned, white wick, obviously never lit.
The long candle had a charred wick, clearly the one that had been lit.
Seeing this, Baili An couldn’t help but pause.
On the journey to and from Xianling City, when he felt motion-sick, Sister Lin Yuan had reassured him, talked to him, and soothed him by telling stories of the sea.
There were rumors that in the vast and boundless sea, there lived a deity in charge of seaborne romance.
This deity had tremendous Divine Power and blessed the Mortal World.
As a result, the once-a-year Lantern Festival became thrice annual.
It was said that if sincere lovers lit the longer candle on Lantern Festival night, and let it drift with the river into the sea, the Sea God in charge of romance would see it and bless them with an eternal union.
But at this moment, the lantern in Baili An’s hand, with its wilted and pitiful appearance, seemed to have endured hardships and collisions in a swiftly flowing stream.
Although it drifted into the distance, it failed to convey the woman’s intentions to the sea.
The candle had not been burning for long before it was extinguished.
Baili An couldn’t tell what feelings Su Jing must have had when he found this tiny, broken lantern along one of the many tributaries and kept it guarded close to his heart for a century.
He looked up, wanting to say to Yin Baishuang that perhaps this lantern need not be destroyed, that he could buy it.
But before he could speak, Yin Baishuang’s brow furrowed, and she spoke first with a suspicious tone, “What is this?
This isn’t the relic she stole from me all those years ago.
Why would there be an extra lantern in her Qiankun Bag?”
Baili An’s thoughts shifted.
So these mundane items he had just destroyed were all taken by Su Jing from her.
Thinking this, he could understand Yin Baishuang’s strong reaction.
Baili An asked, “How shall I handle this lantern?”
Yin Baishuang looked at the lantern in his hand with a cold sneer, “It’s already in such a state, what difference does it make if it’s destroyed or not?
Why?
From the looks of it, do you like it?”
Baili An nodded.
Standing rooted and pressing on her sword, Yin Baishuang said, “Considering the work you’ve done for me just now, since you like it, I’ll give it to you.” Her eyebrows rose sharply, conveying a threat and warning, “But make sure not to give it back to Su Jing!”
An item stored in her Qiankun Bag was important.
She also wanted her to taste the pain of losing something important!
Baili An glanced at her and after a long silence, said, “Okay, everything will be done according to Miss Yin’s wishes.”
It seemed that those little items treasured for over two hundred years were finally destroyed before her eyes, and Yin Baishuang’s features softened with a sense of fulfillment.
She cast a fathomable look at Baili An, “You did well today, managing to protect Su Jing from my hand.
You can take pride in that, but you should know, by saving his life, you have offended me once.”
“Don’t naively think that I will be more agreeable than that heartless cold slab Su Jing.
In time, you’ll understand.” After finishing her words, she closed the opened jade seashell in her sleeve with a meaningful glance at Baili An and then stepped back, about to disappear into the Array Light.
Ying Xiu stepped forward, her gaze lingering with an expression that seemed to hold endless words, “Little Shuang…”
Yin Baishuang, as if she had not heard, completely vanished.
Little Shuang?
Baili An’s eyebrows twitched slightly upon catching those words, a strange feeling stirring within him.
That night, in order to stop the ghost’s marriage, he had blurted out a girl’s name, for he remembered among the maids of the Yun Family, there was one also called Little Shuang.
He did not know why out of all the women’s names, he had picked that particular one, and at the time, he had thought nothing of it, assuming it was mere coincidence.
But now, upon hearing Ying Xiu’s low whisper, light as mist, the name fell into his heart like the roaring of an angry dragon, causing his heart to tremble and his eardrums to pulse, as if having an unsettling premonition.
Ying Xiu watched the red silhouette disappear and only after a long moment did he slowly withdraw his gaze.
He looked at Baili An crouching on the ground in a daze, his expression returning to normal, as his palm lightly brushed over the curling wound on his cheek.
He used some kind of technique, and the spirit light in his palm shimmered.
The fierce sword wound healed and closed instantly, and soon his appearance was as strikingly handsome as when they first met.
This man, whom she herself had injured, did he lack even the courage to heal himself in her presence?
“Do you know Little Shuang, Cultivator Si Chen?” he asked, his tone calm and unassuming, yet there was an unusual significance that one could faintly detect.
Baili An, rousing from his reflections, did not answer his question but simply said, “Does Young Master Ying prefer to call people by their pet name behind their back?”
Ying Xiu’s gaze flickered, and he fell silent.
Baili An no longer paid attention to this man whose Heart Mansion harbored tangled complexities, shouldered Fang Geyu, picked up Su Jing, and prepared to head deeper into Ghost Mountain.
“I have never seen her hold off from killing in fury.”
Ying Xiu suddenly spoke, his eyes as if alight with a subtle fire, “She has wanted to kill Su Jing for over two hundred years.
When she was younger, her Realm Cultivation was far superior to Su Jing’s.
Little Shuang was the first mortal Cultivator in ages whom Immortal Venerable Zhu Zhan chose to enlighten the Life Plate.
Later, troubled by a Heart Demon, her Realm fell, and only then did she fall slightly behind Su Jing.
But despite that, she has never given up on wanting to kill her.”
