3: Chapter 3 Threatening the Aunt 3: Chapter 3 Threatening the Aunt Wufu’s sudden outburst terrified both the usually timid Madam Zhou and the arrogant Madam Lu. The two sisters-in-law looked at Wufu as if they had seen a ghost, filled with immense fright. “Wu, Wufu, what are you doing? Put down the bamboo stick,” Madam Zhou trembled all over, her hands shaking as she reached out to grab Wufu’s hand. Wufu glanced over coldly, and Madam Zhou’s hand froze mid-air. Swallowing hard, Madam Lu shouted with a voice both stern and timid, “You little wretch, have you gone mad? Who gave you the courage to be disrespectful to your Aunt?” As she spoke, she clutched the wooden box in her hands even tighter. The corners of Wufu’s mouth crooked into a cold smile. “I said, put down the wooden box in your hands.” Her grip on the bamboo stick tightened and she moved it forward a notch, the fierce breeze nearly poking Madam Lu’s brow. Clatter! Startled, Madam Lu’s grip loosened, and the wooden box fell to the ground. Seeing this, the smile on Wufu’s face turned into a sneer. Madam Lu’s face felt warm, and seeing Wufu’s mocking smile, irritation rose in her heart. Pointing at her, she stuttered, “You, you...” but under Wufu’s icy stare, she couldn’t finish her words. People tend to bully the kind and fear the wicked. Out of the corner of her eye, Madam Lu saw timid Madam Zhou and directed her anger towards her, “Ying Mei, is this how you raise your daughter? No respect for her elders; indeed, a little wretch with a mother but no father’s teaching!” Madam Zhou pursed her lips, and her eyes reddened. “Get out!” Wufu snapped coldly. Madam Lu stepped forward, thrusting out her chest, “I won’t leave, what will you do about it? Do you really dare to do something?” Right, the wench was all an act; would she truly dare to kill someone? “Not leaving?” Wufu twirled the bamboo stick in her hand and struck directly at Madam Lu. “Ah!” “Wufu!” The shrieks came from both women at once. Madam Lu, seeing the bamboo stick coming towards her, hurried to duck and cover her head, while Madam Zhou, terrified, turned pale and collapsed onto the floor. “She’s gone mad, the little wretch has gone mad!” Shivering, Madam Lu scrambled towards the door on hands and knees. “Wait!” Wufu called out to her again. Madam Lu’s body stiffened, and she turned her head to look back. Narrowing her eyes, Wufu said, “If you dare to create a scene in my house again...” Her gaze swept the room, fixing on an earthen jar. She raised the bamboo stick and swept it across sharply; crash, the jar instantly shattered into fragments. Looking at Madam Lu, she coldly threatened, “You’ll end up like this jar!” Madam Lu’s gaze shifted from the broken pieces on the floor to meet Wufu’s chilling eyes. Her pupils contracted and, seized with fear, she let out a cry, scrambling to her feet and running out, crying loudly, “The bastard child has gone mad!” Wufu snorted disdainfully and glanced at Madam Zhou’s frightened eyes, feeling a headache coming on. She walked over and extended her hand, “It’s over now, get up!” Madam Zhou’s body shook, and she swallowed hard, then hesitantly reached out a trembling hand to grasp her daughter’s. Leaning on her strength, she stood up and mumbled, “Wufu, you... I...” After a long wait with no complete sentence from her, Wufu set down the bamboo stick, went out to find a broom, and silently started to sweep up the shards of the earthen jar. Her expression was calm, as if the fierceness moments ago had been merely Madam Zhou’s imagination. Madam Zhou watched silently as her daughter swept up all the fragments and carried them out. Leaning against the doorframe, she looked at Wufu in the yard, nibbling her lip gently. Wufu had changed. Ever since she had regained consciousness after her head had been injured, she seemed different, slightly foreign, and that filled her mother with a bit of fear. Such a cold and severe expression was something her mother had never seen before; could it be that she was possessed by the Evil Cult?
