Chapter 44 The Realm

Chapter 44: Chapter 44 The RealmA lady around the age of mid-forties stood in front of me, carrying a bowl of water. Her brown long hair was tied up into a messy bun, her brown eyes staring in awe at me. "It’s time to clean up." I stared groggily at her, her words danced around my head, as I was totally uninterested in getting off this bed. I lazily pulled the cover over my head again. I heard the clanking of the bowl dropping on the ground, then the footsteps approached closer again. Before I knew what was happening, the cover was pulled away, flying across the floor. She stressed every word, placing her hand tightly on her waist while glaring at me to do otherwise. I felt a tug in my heart as her posture reminded me of my real mother. I swallowed, before turning to the other side, with my back at her. I heard the lady sigh. "I need to make sure to clean you. First is to protect my head from getting ripped off by the Alpha, and secondly is so you direct us on what to do about the flood." My heart stuttered as my conscience began to judge me. Before I could rise up, I felt the bed deepening at the side. "I know you are very tired, and with the rogues attacking last night, you must be highly stressed out." Hearing her words, I relaxed on the bed. "I wasn’t supposed to be here. It was someone else that ought to be here, but I volunteered to come because I needed to thank you for protecting one of our pups." My eyes opened to her words. Strangely, I felt peace hearing her speak. "Why don’t you get off the bed? There are werewolves waiting outside to see their godsent helper." I rose up from the bed, before dragging myself out of the bed. "Why are they waiting to see me?" "Because the news of you being attacked by the rogues has spread through the packs." She bent to pick up the bowl. I would have loved to help her, however my hand was hurting. "Oh, I see. You don’t have to help me wash up, I can do it by myself." I tried to take off my clothes, but I grimaced from the pain that shot up my spine from my arms. The lady shook her head, before dropping the bowl again. "Let me help you." She helped me with my clothes. I covered myself with a blanket, then she led me to the inner part of the tent. I looked around the cozy small space, with a large wooden tub filled with steaming water. Like a flash, I dropped the blanket before jumping into the water. The water splashed everywhere. I bit my lower lip in guilt. "I’m sorry," I muttered under my breath. It was all because I was ashamed to be seen by her. I knew she would pity me because of my bony stature. Going from a healthy curvy into a bony one was something I couldn’t quite process, and I didn’t want other people to see me in this pitiful form. As if she could feel my shame, she only smiled warmly at me. She squatted before she began scrubbing my body. My tensed body relaxed from the warmth of the water. I sighed, as the thought of not knowing anything about the world came to me. I knew about the werewolves and I’ve heard of the Faes. And I’ve encountered witches, but encountering the rogues and listening to Damon’s conversation with Alaric, I knew that there were a lot of things I did not know. I wanted to know what they meant by the rogue’s appearance being exactly like what happened centuries ago. I knew that werewolves have a longer lifespan than humans from most of the novels sold in my world, so it wasn’t a surprise for me. "You seem like you have questions to ask about," the lady’s voice echoed in my ears, jerking me up from my thoughts. Abruptly, I turned slightly towards her. "I wanted to know about this world. I can’t remember what happened as I lost my memories from an accident." It was slightly true, because strangely enough I could not access Ember’s memories. "Is that so?" the woman mused, as if she could tell that I was lying. But I brushed away the feeling, because I believed there was no way she would know that I was lying. "The world is divided into four major realms: the realm of humans, which is a whole different world dominated by creatures without supernatural powers; the realm of the Faes, which is also considered a realm closer to heaven. The Faes have magical powers and are always peaceful, hardly involving themselves in wars or political struggles. There is the demon’s realm—trust me, you don’t want to go there. The place is commonly known as hell, where evil beings are cast off to. The place is ruled by Hades itself. You mustn’t go there no matter what." At her warning, I couldn’t help but swallow. She made it sound as if I would go there. Who would want to go to hell? "And the last one, the realm of supernaturals. That includes vampires, witches, and werewolves. Each creature has their own territory, which is divided into three main plains: the lower plains, which are dominated by the witches; the middle plain, which is dominated by the vampires because of the lack of sunlight in that area; and the upper plain, dominated by our kind—the werewolves." She paused. My head buzzed with too much information. The world is filled up with different creatures. How am I supposed to process everything? "The upper plain sounds like the most treasurable land, or is it just me?" "No, you are right. The upper plain is rich with resources, and its air is very clean, as it is the closest land to the Fae’s realm, and it benefits from the magical energy slipping into it whenever the Fae’s portal opens."
