After a few moments, an exasperated voice came through. "Raditz, what now? I'm busy! That sister of mine still won't come back to help with my writing." "Tights," Raditz sighed. "Aspara wants to know if you can reach Jaco." There was a pause. "Jaco?" Taking advantage of the moment, Jiang Chen stepped in. "Miss Tights, I was wondering what the requirements are for joining the Galactic Patrol." "You want to join the Galactic Patrol?" Tights sounded genuinely stunned. "Yes. Would that be difficult?" "Well, it's not exactly difficult, but Jaco doesn't think too highly of Saiyans. He might refuse outright." Jiang Chen chuckled, unfazed. "That's fine. Just contact him— I'll take care of the rest." The Saiyans of Universe 7 weren't like those of Universe 6. Their reputation was far from clean, and he knew it. But he wasn't concerned. After all, Vegeta himself had joined the Galactic Patrol in the original timeline. If even the Prince of Saiyans could do it, why couldn't they? More importantly, the Galactic Patrol was severely understaffed when it came to real warriors. Frieza dominated the North Area. Cooler had a firm grip on the West. And the South and East weren't much better. The Patrol's reach barely extended beyond minor skirmishes. Near a clearing, a small spacecraft sat nestled between towering cliffs. "Whoosh!" Two figures materialized from thin air. Tights, startled, yelped. "Could you NOT do that?! You Saiyans and your sudden teleporting!" From the communicator, Jaco was equally startled. "Eep!" Jiang Chen ignored their reactions and turned to the screen, where the pint-sized Patrolman's face was frozen in nervous shock. "Hello, Jaco. I'm Aspara, and this is Raditz. I wanted to ask— what are the qualifications for joining the Galactic Patrol?" Jaco blinked. Then his eyes widened in horror. "WHAT?!" Jiang Chen smiled. "I asked how we can enlist in the Galactic Patrol." "You— you want to JOIN the Galactic Patrol?" Jaco stammered. "Yes. Planet Vegeta is gone. The few Saiyans who survived have no home, no future. You know as well as I do that we worked under Frieza, conquering worlds for his empire— only to be repaid with our own destruction." He let the words sink in before continuing. "This time, we want to take a different path. The Galactic Patrol is dedicated to maintaining peace in the universe, correct? That's why we're interested." It was a carefully crafted response— one Jiang Chen had already rehearsed in his mind. A lost people. A destroyed homeland. A shift in purpose. They were all plausible motivations. And judging by Jaco's expression, he was struggling to process it. "This..." The Patrolman opened his mouth, but no words came out. Jiang Chen didn't press him. "Jaco, why don't you check with your superiors? Get their opinion first, then let us know." Jaco exhaled, clearly relieved to have an escape. "R-Right! I'll ask and get back to you!" The communicator cut off. Silence followed. Then, Tights crossed her arms and eyed Jiang Chen suspiciously. "What's your angle?" Jiang Chen merely smiled. "You're actually serious about joining the Patrol? You're not planning something shady?" Raditz scoffed. "You talk too much, woman." "I'm just saying! Jaco always says Saiyans are the universe's worst criminals, and now you suddenly want to be peacekeepers? It's weird." "There's nothing weird about it," Jiang Chen replied evenly. He looked toward the horizon, his expression unreadable. "Our planet is gone. What we were before... no longer matters." His voice was calm, but there was a weight to it— one that made even Raditz fall silent. Tights, realizing she had touched a nerve, hesitated. "...I'm sorry." Jiang Chen's smile returned, light but reassuring. "It's fine." Meanwhile, on the other side of the galaxy— Jaco was sprinting through the corridors of the Galactic Patrol headquarters.
