Chapter 174: Chapter 174. Xian Cloth The stone created a void that sucked in its target. The ones sucked into the void disappeared forever, never to be found again. The theory was that the ones who disappeared into the void were transported into a different realm. A hostile and desolate realm that spelled doom to those who ventured into it. It was said that the stones were created from an experiment using an unknown material. The technique of making the stone had been lost to time. It was said that only a handful were created at one time. Subsequent trials to recreate the stone resulted in failure. Hence, the handful that existed was extremely rare because each usage of the stones meant fewer left in existence. Amon looked at the small rock on the pedestal. This rock could be the last of its kind. He picked up the rock and tested it by injecting a sliver of aether. He felt the rock vibrate in his hand. Its surface also turned color. Its color, which was originally dull grey, became inconsistent. It changed colors every half second. At one point, it also appeared transparent. This indicated that the rock was still working. Amon immediately stopped the transfer of aether. He didn’t want to accidentally detonate this rock and get transferred into an unknown realm. He stored this rock inside his black space ring. He then continued to sift through the book in his hand. Out of the two remaining artifacts, he only got information about one of them. The lantern-like object called Allure Beacon, was a trap weapon designed to cause havoc in its immediate area. This was because the beacon attracted spirit beasts from around the area to converge at the beacon’s location. Similar to the Plane Shift Stone, the method of making this artifact had been lost to time. This artifact didn’t self-destruct like the Plane Shift Stone, but it was most likely gone after each usage, destroyed by the very spirit beasts it drew. So, any found allure beacon could very well be the last one. However, this allure beacon was useless by itself. It needed a certain chemical brew, beast nectar. Amon looked at the carving of a drop of liquid on the panel. He then looked inside the allure beacon. At its base plate was a round indentation with a small hole. This was where the brew was to be inserted. The brew acted as the fuel to power up this artifact. This meant without the brew, this artifact was useless. Amon searched the room again to see if he could find any clue regarding the brew. He found none. He decided to keep the allure beacon. Perhaps he could find the brew to be used with this artifact in the future. Amon then stared at the last item, the Xian cloth. His book contained no information about this artifact. He normally didn’t like dealing with an unknown item. This cloth could be a bomb for all he knew, but he also knew that this cloth was not something mundane. Both the artifacts next to it were extraordinary things that were most likely no longer available anywhere else. This cloth should also be a similar rarity. Amon decided to take the risk. He used one finger to touch the cloth. It was soft. No different from common cloth, except it was of the luxurious kind. It was very soft. Amon wondered if it was made of vicuna wool and whether there was even such an animal in this world. The cloth didn’t exhibit any reaction to Amon’s touch. Amon grabbed it and picked it up. It was a slender but very long cloth. Amon looked at the carving on the panel again. Was this cloth just a luxurious item for a ritual dance? He decided to test injecting a sliver of aether into this cloth. Once his aether went into the soft fabric, he felt a connection. He could feel each fiber of the fabric come alive. He knew then that it was not normal cloth. ’This is a runic-grade artifact!" Amon realized. A runic-grade item was a higher grade than the engraved items. Usually, only Martial realm practitioners possessed such an item. A runic-grade artifact or weapon was unique as one needed to imprint their mark on it. After imprinting a mark, the artifact or weapon would be owned by the mark’s giver. Like the space ring, if one wanted to use the artifact or the weapon, one needed to break the existing mark and imprint their own before one could use the item. So, during a battle, if somehow one’s runic weapon was taken, the one who took it wouldn’t be able to use it immediately before breaking the owner’s imprint. The stealer also couldn’t store the runic weapon into his space ring. A runic weapon could only be stored in a space ring with the same mark imprint. This gave runic weapons a more personal feel. Excited, Amon picked up the yellow cloth. This item was without an imprint. Perhaps it used to have one, but over time, whatever imprint was inside had faded away. Amon had no problem imprinting his mark into this Xian cloth. He then inserted more aether into the cloth. He felt his connection getting stronger. He felt like he could command this cloth to follow his will. He demanded it to become hard. The loose and dangling cloth suddenly became rigid. It shot straight ahead and struck the wall on the further side. The wall here was also made of blackstone, which was very hard, but this cloth left a mark on it as if it had been struck by a blade. "Amazing," Amon thought. The length of this cloth, if fully extended, was around fifty meters long. This meant this cloth could function as a long-range weapon as well. However, when Amon commanded the full length of this cloth to become hard, only a part of it turned rigid. It seemed that his aether was still not strong enough to fully control this cloth.
