Chapter 24: Ch 24: His Job [ Name: Adrian ?? Race: Human Age: 17 Level: 13 Status: Cursed(Active) Titles: The Key to the Trials, ??, ?? , Disciple of ?? Skills:Double Penetration,Mana Manipulation,?? Missions: (expand) ] He was once a lvl 233. Quite a high level if one compared it to the average level of the adults. Now his power was just a spark of what he once was. ’I need to grind more to increase my level...time isn’t on my side.’ As he saw the system hovering in front of him, he could see his own progress thanks to the seal being broken. But something that surprised him was the appearance of Mana Manipulation on the display. Previously it was censored and protected. But it seemed as he went on to use more of his powers, they shall also keep on getting revealed to her. ’One’s abilities are their trumph cards. The more ambiguity one can maintain, the better their chances at taking their opponents by surprise.’ Even the elites would not reveal their ultimate power unless absolutely necessary. The world wasn’t the stage for people like to them to show-off their powers, as if entertaining the audience. That was also why Adrian was cautious of even attempting to use his strongest powers. Not that he could successfully execute them with his low level for now. But if he were to fight someone as strong as Cassius, he would certainly need to get used to them once again. Before that though he needed to raise his level and unlock the requirements to use those abilities. He cleared his mind of these thoughts as he raised his head and looked into the dark expanse below him. He was currently descending a set of stairs, the darkness in this underground basement surrounding them more and more as they went deeper and deeper. Few steps in front of him was Jeffrey, his figure swaying as he talked about his family and their high expectations from him and this restaurant. Nonetheless, the young man’s jovial nature let Adrian freely wander in his own thoughts occasionally nodding or humming to show his attention to Jeffrey’s words. "So Leo." Jeffrey turned back to look at Adrian and then sweeping his right arm behind him, he explained. "Your job for now won’t be anything too difficult. Since Ayu has to take some rest from that injury, so in his place you shall be taking all these spices to the port in the Joint Carriage." "What’s this Joint Carriage?" Adrian couldn’t help but ask. Jeffrey smiled a bit. "Well you see,to save unnecessary costs and expenses, we have built this huge carriage type thing, divided into several compartments. For matters of trading, all the companies in the Woodrock City use this weekly service for trade." "Ohh...I see." He nodded as if he understood. But in truth his imagination couldn’t come up with anything. All he could think was a ship sliding on land....and it was completely ridiculous. ’This is certainly a creative idea...’ Then with a tired sigh he thought, ’But if such seemless cooperation exists within the companies with regards to transportation... doesn’t that simply mean each and every one of them are also a part of whatever corruption lay underneath this city?’ Glancing at his system, his eyes instinctively closed for a moment. ’The system doesn’t even clearly state of exactly what I am to do here...Surely I am not being expected to expose each and every business and noble family here? Shit, my past actions of spreading corruption have come to bite at me now.’ A low voice whistled in the damp air around Adrian. [Karma...] And disappeared as soon as it had appeared. His lips twitched at the sarcasm. "Hello? Oh, Leo. Zenim to Leo!" He was startled by the snapping of fingers in front of him. He found Jeffrey looking at him curiously and he realised he had zoned out unintentionally. "This is your first day at job, and you are already lost in thoughts." Adrian could only mutter in an awkward manner. "Yeah..I didn’t have umm a proper sleep yesterday night..too excited to get the job." He chuckled nervously trying to cover up his mistake while thinking. ’I slept like a log...’ Thankfully, Jeffrey didn’t continue on the matter and ordered, "So now that you have looked around the place, get in place at the garden. It’s more of a boring job, sitting and doing nothing. Who knows how you guys even get excited to apply for such a dull job." The last part he muttered under his breath, though Adrian heard it. They went upstairs with this time silence reigning between them. Adrian thanked the man in his mind for not again ratlling like those motor pumps. Coming up, Jeffrey went to his office without any ceremony while Adrian walked out to the garden. The garden stuck within several urban buildings looked like the epitome of natural beauty. There was a shed built at the side with one chair and a small desk in front of it. He walked over and sank into the chair. And watched the garden, lost in thoughts as time passed by quickly. The gardener had at one point entered there, took care of the plants and even talked with Adrian quite a bit. When he left, Adrian could only think of one thing. ’This guy seriously gave me a lecture of gardening and stuffs. Seems I shall get stuck in these lectures if I keep on working here.’ Around noon, Ayu had offered to watch over the garden. Adrian was quite grateful to him since he had to go for his lunch. Time flashed by as the sun dipped below the horizon, marking the end of Adrian’s duty. He stretched his body while coming out of the restaurant. Even without doing any work, his body felt completely sore from all the sitting he had to do. He walked down the road in a search for another carriage to his inn. No way was he spending his night in this neighborhood. The places here were quite expensive and he couldn’t afford to waste money just like that. As he was walking, he saw a figure at a distance looking at him. Silent. Waiting. It was Robin. Adrian came to a halt and asked. "Is it done?" Robin bowed slightly and replied back, "Yes, my Lord. The Eighth Seat has agreed to meet you at noon at Cum’nd Dine." The street was dark, with hardly any people walking by. Still, the occasional glances from the passersby wasn’t comfortable. "Good job." That’s all he said. Robin bowed again and walked past him in the same direction Adrain had just come from. "By the way..." Turning around Robin asked, "may I ask what was in the letter you gave me in the morning. My Lord’s eyes looked on the edge of bursting out of his sockets as he read that." Adrian shrugged. "Who knows, maybe his age is finally catching up to him." He walked away. Once at the inn, he ate his dinner quickly and went to sleep. Three days till the end of the quest...
