Chapter 66: Good News
A month had passed since Adrian told her about his mother. In that time, Bianca and Adrian had grown closer. Bianca became more certain about her feelings for him—the man had completely melted her heart. Over the past month, she noticed so many changes in him, and it made her glad she had chosen to open her heart to him.
Bianca was at the mall when she passed by a bakery. Out of nowhere, the smell of freshly baked bread made her feel sick. She quickly covered her mouth and hurried away. Lately, she hadn’t been feeling well. She often felt nauseous and dizzy. And every time she smelled something strong, the nausea always came back.
She rushed to the restroom. While she was throwing up, a middle-aged woman looked at her kindly and asked, "First trimester?"
"Huh? Sorry?" Bianca asked, confused.
Before she could ask more, the woman’s phone rang. She answered it right away and walked off, leaving Bianca hanging.
Bianca came out of the restroom, remembering she still hadn’t bought the groceries. Carrying one shopping bag, she made her way to the supermarket.
In the fruit section, just as she was about to grab an apple, the strong smell of durian suddenly hit her. The nausea returned instantly. She quickly covered her nose and walked away.
Then she froze. Her mind went back to what the woman in the restroom had said. Narrowing her eyes, she did a quick count in her head. She realized she was already three weeks late for her period.
Could it be...?
Dropping the idea of shopping, Bianca rushed straight to the nearest pharmacy.
"Do you have pregnancy tests? I need one," she asked the clerk.
"Which type? Digital?"
"Yes, Please."
"Which brand do you want, Miss?" the clerk asked again.
Bianca frowned, clearly clueless. "All of them. I’ll take all of them."
"Please wait, I’ll get them for you."
A moment later, the clerk came back with eight different brands of test packs. "Here you go, Miss."
"Thanks. I’ll take them all."
After paying, Bianca hurried out of the mall and drove home. She couldn’t wait to find out. Her heart was racing at the thought of a little child, looking like both her and Adrian, calling her "Mom." Without realizing it, a soft smile had already spread across her face.
When Bianca got back to the apartment, she took a small clean container and started testing the pregnancy kits she had bought. After about five minutes, the result finally showed up.
Her heart was beating fast. Before picking it up, she whispered a short prayer, asking for the best. Then, unable to wait any longer, she lifted the test. Her eyes widened the moment she saw two red lines. Not fully believing it and worried it might be wrong, she tried every test pack she had bought. Once again, all of them showed two clear red lines. Bianca felt like her heart was about to burst from the happiness she couldn’t hold back
"Oh my God... I’m pregnant!" she cried out in pure joy. "I’m pregnant... really pregnant!" she repeated, hopping with excitement.
Bianca couldn’t wait to share the news with Adrian. She was sure he’d be overjoyed. Still, before telling him, she wanted to confirm it properly by seeing a doctor. She pressed a hand gently over her belly, whispering to herself with a small smile, "Just let me confirm it first, little one... then they’ll all know about you."
Since it was only two in the afternoon, she still had plenty of time. Bianca quickly grabbed her bag and rushed to the hospital.
At the hospital, after waiting in line, her name was finally called. With her heart racing, she stepped into the examination room.
A woman in a white coat greeted her with a warm smile. "Please, have a seat, Mrs. Williams."
"Thank you, Doctor."
"So, what brings you in today?" the doctor asked kindly.
"Well, Doctor... I’ve been three weeks late for my period. Lately, I’ve also been feeling nauseous. Thinking I might be pregnant, I tried several test packs, and they all showed positive. To be sure, I’d like you to check again."
The doctor nodded gently. "Pregnancy tests can sometimes be wrong. The most reliable way to know is through a blood test and an ultrasound. You’ve done the right thing by coming here, Mrs. Williams. Let’s do an ultrasound so we can be sure."
Not long after, Dr. Katty—whose name Bianca had read on her white coat, began examining her with an ultrasound device.
"Congratulations, Mrs. Williams. Your suspicion was correct. You’re pregnant, and your pregnancy is already more than two months along," Dr. Katty said, smiling warmly.
Immediately, Bianca’s lips curved into a big smile. Without realizing it, she had placed her hands on her still-flat belly. Her family was about to grow. She couldn’t wait to see Adrian’s reaction when he found out he was going to be a father and she was excited to share the news with her own parents too.
Before she married Adrian, her parents used to nag her to settle down and start a family. Bianca loved children and had always wanted one of her own. Most women her age were already married with kids, and back when she worked at the office, listening to her friends talk about their children often made her feel a little jealous.
But Bianca always said she was too busy with work. Her career had just started to take off, and if she got married and had kids, she wasn’t sure she could keep it up. Her parents eventually accepted her reason. Now, knowing that she was finally going to have a baby, they would surely be touched and overjoyed.
As it neared Adrian’s usual time to get home from work, Bianca got ready. She took the gift box she had bought after leaving the hospital, placed the pregnancy test inside, and set it on their bed. When she heard Adrian calling her name, she knew he had arrived, so she quickly hid nearby, her heart racing, eager to see his reaction.
