Chapter 113: The Password Was Me

Words : 1011 Updated : Sep 23rd, 2025
Chapter 113: The Password Was Me He leaned casually on the edge of the desk, schooling his expression into something more relaxed, but the tension still lingered in the air. "Just... browsing," he said, shrugging, like it was the most normal thing in the world to be sneaking around someone else’s study. Heather narrowed her eyes slightly, her hand still on the doorknob. She wasn’t stupid. She knew Adonis wasn’t here for casual web surfing. "And you don’t have your own computer?" she asked, watching him closely. Adonis gave a lazy grin, but it was stretched thin. "What about you? You don’t exactly carry your laptop around either." Heather didn’t blink. "I live here." "So do I," he shot back, still trying to keep his tone light, but his eyes darted briefly toward the screen behind him. He was definitely hiding something. Heather stepped further inside, arms folding across her chest. Her voice lowered. "You know he doesn’t like people snooping around in here." "I wasn’t snooping," Adonis said quickly, but his reaction gave him away. Heather tilted her head, letting the silence stretch between them. Then she reached for the desk phone. "I’ll call him. Let’s see what he thinks about you being here." Adonis’s cool exterior cracked just slightly. His smile faltered, a flash of annoyance—or maybe concern—crossed his face. "Relax," he muttered, backing away from the desk with his hands raised. "No need for that. I’m already leaving." Heather didn’t lower the phone, she was still watching him. His reaction told her everything she needed to know—he wasn’t supposed to be here, and he wasn’t here for innocent reasons. But right now, she didn’t have time to deal with whatever game Adonis was playing. "Didn’t even get to use the computer," he added with a forced smile as he headed for the door. "It’s all yours." He mock-bowed slightly. Heather didn’t respond, her eyes were still tracking him as he slipped out of the room, his fake grin was still plastered across his face. The moment he was gone, she exhaled slowly, setting the phone back down. He’s up to something and she knew it. Why would he even be in here? And how did he even unlock this place? But she shoved the thought aside for now. She had bigger problems. Her attention snapped back to the computer screen. It was locked. She needed to check that email—fast. Heather crossed the room and sat at the desk. But the computer screen was locked and she needed a password. Of course. What could his password possibly be? Her first thought was Lauren. In the past, that was Caius’s password for everything. Even his credit card pin was Lauren’s birth year. Heather used his card all the time because he never gave her money directly. He’d just leave his card behind, expecting her to just know. She typed in "Lauren." Nothing. That surprised her more than anything else. "You’re not completely stupid anymore," she muttered under her breath. She tried other guesses. His charity foundation’s name. His birthday. His mother’s maiden name. Even Alex’s name. Nothing worked. She tapped her fingers on the desk, frustration mounting. "What does he even like?" she whispered. She knew him well enough to know his ego was massive. Maybe some vanity password. She tried "Philanthropist." Still nothing. "God, Caius..." she muttered under her breath, cursing softly. She leaned back in the chair. That’s when a thought came to her. Her name? Would he be that predictable? Probably not. But she was running out of options. She typed in "Heather." Still locked. Not that she was even expecting it to work. Heather sat heavily in the leather chair, frustration settled over her like a heavy blanket. The screen glowed in front of her, still locked tight behind Caius’s password. She had tried everything she could think of—Lauren, his old go-to for practically everything. Nothing. His philanthropy titles. His public image. Nothing. Even her own name, half-expecting that to work—but of course, no luck there either. She exhaled through her nose, leaning back in the chair, her head tilting toward the ceiling. "This is ridiculous..." she muttered to herself. Of all times she wanted Caius to be predictable, he wasn’t. But the moment she needed him the most he was as tight as a virgin. For a moment, she just let herself sit there, letting the tension ease from her shoulders. She needed to think—not rush, not guess wildly—but actually think. Was it even worth it? Sitting her trying to crack a password when with the time spent here, she could even order a new one. She stood to leave, but that’s when her eyes drifted to the corner of the desk. A plain white coffee mug sat there. She almost didn’t notice it, but something about it pulled her attention in. On the side, in faded pink letters, was a little cartoon pig. She stared at it, lips parting slightly. Little piggy. Her face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and disbelief. He still called her that—his stupid nickname for her, the one that used to annoy her beyond reason. But... maybe... She leaned forward, fingers hovering over the keyboard. Slowly, she typed it in. l i t t l e p i g g y She hit enter. The screen unlocked. Her brows lifted in shock. "You have got to be kidding me," she whispered, half exasperated, half too drained to even be properly mad about it. She shook her head lightly, lips twitching into the smallest, reluctant smile. Leave it to Caius to set his entire computer to unlock with the most ridiculous, childish password—and leave it to him to make her the password, in his own twisted way. But there was no time to unpack how she felt about that. She had work to do. Heather straightened in the chair, the weight of what Lauren said creeping back into her chest. Her fingers moved quickly, pulling up the email tab. Time to see what Lauren was holding over her head.
