Then, from its left arm, a pitch-black, razor-sharp blade emerged. Before the drone could land, the blade sliced it cleanly in half. The landing combat robot’s first engagement—clean and precise. That initial attack seemed to be a signal—the starting horn. Swarms of insects emerged from concealment and charged the robots. Long-range drones in the rear began launching miniature energy blasts, while agile melee units swarmed in for close combat. This was just a single small unit of the Swarm’s main army. Beyond this, an ocean of insects was converging on the under-construction base. War broke out instantly. In terms of sheer numbers per square meter, the Swarm outnumbered the robots many times over. But the robots’ superior capabilities shone through. Even while being attacked by dozens of bugs at once, they showed no fear. High-velocity machine guns, high-explosive grenades, miniature laser cannons, and black combat blades were used in rapid succession, reaping wave after wave of Swarm lives. The robots demonstrated performance far beyond Xiao Yu’s expectations. In brutal, close-quarters melee combat—without the advantage of terrain—they could even take on ten bugs at once and not fall behind. In most cases, the robot would slay all ten enemies without even having its energy shield breached. And it should be noted—each of these melee bugs was dozens of times more ferocious than a tiger or lion on Earth. The Arrow Beasts also showcased their strength. Some transformed into bear-like forms and crushed drones with a single paw. Others took on beastly forms, shredding bugs with claws and fangs. Surrounded by hundreds of bugs, it kept firing relentlessly. When its ammo ran out, its miniature laser cannon was depleted, its black blade chipped, and its energy shield shattered, it leapt. The jump carried it over ten meters high and several dozen meters across, breaking free of the encirclement. It landed in a half-kneeling pose, absorbed the impact, and immediately resumed running and leaping. In just thirty seconds, it evaded countless Swarm bugs and returned to the base. Inside the base, over a dozen maintenance robots quickly repaired it—replacing parts, refueling. The entire process took just a few minutes. Once restored, the robot sprang back to life and rushed out to rejoin the battle. This was just one scene of many. Similar situations played out across hundreds of locations on the battlefield. The battle was brutal. Ferocious. The Swarm numbered in the millions, and reinforcements kept arriving. From all directions, insects poured in, turning the grassland into a hellscape of Swarm domination. Yet, at the center of the plain, the not-yet-completed base stood firm. Guarded by 100,000 combat robots and 500 Arrow Beasts, it withstood wave after wave of Swarm assaults. The robots formed an unbreakable line, holding the insects at bay without yielding an inch. The Arrow Beasts served as rapid-response units, rushing to any section of the line that faltered. Despite the scale of the battle, the robots maintained a surprisingly low loss rate. In most cases, only minor damage was sustained—easily repaired. But there were exceptions. Xiao Yu witnessed one robot, having exhausted all its weapons and attempting to escape, get slammed mid-jump by another leaping bug. It was immediately buried by a tidal wave of Swarm, and within ten seconds, Xiao Yu lost all contact with it. Such cases, however, were rare. Out of 100,000 robots, fewer than one hundred were completely destroyed and unrecoverable. The battle raged on for over three hours. During this time, at least one million Swarm were slain. Within several dozen kilometers of the base, insect corpses littered the ground, and their dark green blood flowed everywhere. It had become a mountain of corpses. A sea of bugs. After five hours, the intensity of the fighting began to wane. Perhaps realizing Xiao Yu’s power, no new Swarm reinforcements approached the battlefield, and those remaining were soon cleared out. With the battle over, the 500 Arrow Beasts returned to their transport ships. Exhausted, they didn’t rest—instead, they burst into triumphant shouting. “That was awesome! We’ve got to wipe these damn bugs off the map!” The Arrow Beasts chirped and chattered excitedly. They would now return aboard the Handan to rest and recover. In just those five short hours, the foundation of the base had taken shape. “Estimated time to completion: seven more hours. Once Base One is done... mm... we’ll station ten thousand robots here permanently. Alright, let’s begin construction of Base Two.” Xiao Yu made his decision.
