Chapter 137: Meteor Shower

Words : 1425 Updated : Sep 21st, 2025
Planet Three was a rocky planet, with a mass approximately twice that of Earth. It had two moons, both roughly the size of Earth’s moon. Xiao Yu’s fleet had reduced its speed to 12 kilometers per second, a velocity that would allow it to successfully enter an orbital trajectory around Planet One. Although the Hebei, constructed from the flesh of Alien Beasts, was extraordinarily robust, Xiao Yu wasn’t keen on testing it against Planet One’s tidal gravitational forces. The potential risk of the ship being torn apart or deformed by the gravitational pull was too significant to ignore. Thus, Xiao Yu positioned the Hebei and several City-Class ships at a safe distance of 1 million kilometers from Planet One. He commanded the remaining County-Class and lower-class ships to approach the planet. As the fleet advanced, it engaged in small-scale skirmishes with Swarm creatures almost continuously, annihilating the enemy along the way. Planet One boasted a dense atmosphere. Xiao Yu’s position aligned with both Planet One’s atmosphere and Aquila Three, forming a straight line. From his vantage point, Xiao Yu could see half of Aquila Three. Aquila Three hung on the horizon like a newborn sun, its body half-visible. Bathed in its light, Xiao Yu observed countless Swarm creatures appearing in space like a rain of droplets. As they neared Planet One’s atmosphere, they transformed into spherical shapes, plummeting toward the atmosphere like meteors. Their numbers were staggering—at least in the millions. “We must act quickly; there’s no time to delay,” Xiao Yu decided, issuing orders to disperse the County-Class and smaller ships evenly over a designated area above Planet One. Like a vast net, the ships launched a ferocious counterattack against the Swarm pouring in from the depths of space. Simultaneously, Xiao Yu deployed 5,000 Village-Class ships to penetrate the atmosphere and begin an operation on the planet’s surface. At this moment, Xiao Yu transmitted a high-powered radio signal. “Arrow Beasts, I have come as promised by your kin to protect you. What is your current situation? If you receive this message, please respond!” The Arrow Beasts had superluminal communication capabilities that ignored distance. Xiao Yu knew that the Arrow Beast warriors in the Aquila Two binary star system had already informed their kin of him, so there was little concern about being mistaken as an enemy. Space remained eerily silent. No matter how intense the explosions in battle, they produced no sound in the void. Amid this silence, Xiao Yu’s heart gradually sank. There was no response. Xiao Yu had already confirmed that the Arrow Beasts could both receive and send radio signals. If they were still alive, they would have received his message and had no reason not to reply. “Could it be... that all the Arrow Beasts have perished?” A grim premonition began to grow in Xiao Yu’s heart. By now, the 5,000 Village-Class ships had breached Planet One’s atmosphere, revealing a fascinating and vibrant world. Due to the planet’s rotation, Planet One—like Earth—experienced alternating day and night. Xiao Yu’s location was near the boundary between light and dark. In the distance, under the newborn sun’s glow, the planet’s surface was alive with activity. Vast grasslands dominated the landscape, covered with a dense growth of grass-like plants. Scattered across the plains were sparse, low-lying trees. Xiao Yu speculated that the low height of the trees might be a result of the planet’s strong gravity. Beyond the grasslands, the planet boasted lakes, mountains, and oceans. An analysis of the planet’s atmosphere revealed a composition similar to Earth’s, though its oxygen content was only one-fifth that of Earth. For humans, this would result in severe high-altitude sickness-like symptoms. Overall, Planet One’s environment was not too dissimilar from Earth’s, evoking a sense of nostalgia in Xiao Yu. However, one aspect was far from pleasing: the overwhelming number of insects. They not only swarmed the ground but also filled the near-ground space, flying recklessly in the sky. Against the Swarm on the ground, Xiao Yu lacked effective strategies. However, he showed no mercy when targeting the airborne Swarm creatures, unleashing precise attacks. In the intense battle, Xiao Yu dispersed 5,000 Town-Class ships across Planet One’s surface, initiating a thorough search. In space, Swarm creatures continued to stream in from the direction of Planet Three, only to meet fierce resistance before entering Planet One’s atmosphere. Every minute, Xiao Yu destroyed hundreds of thousands of Swarm creatures, yet countless others managed to breach his defense net and infiltrate Planet One. The vastness of space and the overwhelming number of Swarm creatures made it nearly impossible to intercept them all. Achieving even a 50% interception rate was already a monumental feat. Xiao Yu understood that the Swarm’s offensive wouldn’t last indefinitely. With the Queen having fled, the Swarm in the Aquila Three system couldn’t sustain their assault without her reinforcements. Within Planet One’s atmosphere, Xiao Yu’s 5,000 ships pressed on with their search. Some ventured into the daylight regions, marveling at the planet’s breathtaking scenery, while others entered the night zones, where the spectacle was equally awe-inspiring. Under the night sky, Planet One revealed its pristine clarity. The cosmos unfolded in dazzling detail, with innumerable stars visible through the atmosphere. The sky frequently lit up with flashes, each leaving a long trail like a meteor. Xiao Yu knew these were Swarm creatures entering Planet One. Their bodies heated and glowed as they rubbed against the atmosphere, creating meteor-like visuals. These flashes were numerous, occurring at such a high frequency that Xiao Yu observed at least 10,000 “meteors” within a single minute. This indicated that 10,000 Swarm creatures had invaded Planet One in just 60 seconds. The relentless flashes resembled a meteor shower on Earth but far exceeded any meteor shower ever seen. Staring at the sky, Xiao Yu felt as if it were truly “raining.” “At this rate, this meteor shower will likely continue for at least five more days before it stops,” Xiao Yu calculated. Despite his constant radio broadcasts, there was still no response. On the ground, vast Swarm armies moved like ferocious ants, surging back and forth across Planet One’s surface, wreaking havoc on its natural environment. In the sky, countless flying Swarm creatures dominated the airspace. In densely populated areas, they were so numerous they seemed to blot out the sun. “They must be searching for the Arrow Beasts. This suggests the Arrow Beasts have gone into hiding... I hope their casualties aren’t severe,” Xiao Yu thought, continuing his search across Planet One. During the search, Xiao Yu grew increasingly frustrated. He realized he lacked effective means to deal with ground-based Swarm creatures. While aerial Swarm creatures were exposed and could be eliminated using kinetic weapons, laser cannons, and particle cannons, ground-based Swarm creatures were a different story. Hydrogen bombs and energy projectiles were unsuitable for planetary use as they would cause severe environmental destruction. Additionally, directed weapons like kinetic and laser systems were less effective due to Planet One’s complex terrain, which provided ample cover. At present, Xiao Yu lacked a capable planetary landing force. Although he had conducted a landing operation against the Moluton Civilization, the Molutons’ physical resilience paled compared to that of the Swarm. Xiao Yu knew that deploying robots of similar strength against the Swarm would result in total annihilation within ten minutes. “After eliminating the spaceborne Swarm, I must focus on developing landing forces. Otherwise, there’s no way to eradicate the Swarm on planetary surfaces effectively,” Xiao Yu resolved. In the daylight region, a Village-Class ship descended over a mountainous area on Planet One. This region, like others, had not been spared the Swarm’s ravages. Both the sky and ground were teeming with Swarm creatures. Here, Xiao Yu conducted another radio broadcast. “Arrow Beasts, I am your friend from the Human Civilization. I have come at the request of your kin to protect you. If you can hear this message, please respond...” “Five, four, three, two, one,” Xiao Yu silently counted down, but even as he reached zero, there was no response. “Ah, let’s try another location,” Xiao Yu sighed. Just as he was about to leave, his radio device intercepted a message. The message was brief and straightforward: “Help me!” Xiao Yu’s spirits lifted instantly. He immediately responded, “Where are you?” “I’m in a cave on Mount Moer! Responding to your message has exposed my location to the Swarm. They’ve found me! I can’t hold out much longer!”
