55: Chapter 55: Trust 55: Chapter 55: Trust Helen Wilson knew she was being harsh, but seeing James Brown’s innocent face only fueled her irritation. Perhaps fearing James wouldn’t come over, Emily actually followed him to close the door and clung tightly to his arm, then pulled James back to her place. In the living room, she pulled everything off the sofa and dragged James down to sit. “Hey, there’s one more here.” James called out; the girl had only cared about clearing the sofa and had ignored the item he was holding. James couldn’t help but burst into laughter as the earlier awkwardness vanished. Emily soon came out, her face flushed, and stuck out her tongue, “Sorry, I forgot to tidy up.” James shook his head, saying, “I wonder what kind of man could spend a lifetime with you.” Emily sat next to James, giggling, saying, “It’s just a question of who’s the unlucky one.” James laughed heartily, “You do know yourself well.” Emily proudly said, “That’s right. I’m not good at managing daily life, I’m sloppy, and though I haven’t lost myself, I’ve lost everything else. Imagine how much worrying a guy would have to do if he married me.” James found it even funnier, saying, “Alright, I have to hand it to you.” After James finished speaking, Emily said enviously, “It must have been so cool. I always wanted to go but never did. It has always been a regret.” James laughed again, saying, “If they had someone as scatterbrained as you in there, I wonder how long your platoon leader would last before fainting.” The two chatted and laughed until it was past two in the morning. James stood up to leave, but as he reached the door, Emily caught up with him, saying, “Big Brother Brown, just leave your keys at my place.” “What for?” “I’m afraid of losing my keys again, so if I leave a spare at your place, I won’t have to worry about not being able to get back in.” “You trust me that much? Aren’t you afraid I’ll sneak into your place when I’m bored and steal your stuff?” Emily blinked and said, “With your skills, do you even need a key to get into my house?” “I guess not.” James reluctantly smiled and took the keys, accepting this token of trust from Emily.
