Chapter 16: Chapter 16: VJ Mary went to the checkout counter, the gift card in hand. The cashier smiled warmly as Mary handed over the card. "You're going to look amazing in this," the cashier said. "Thank you," Mary replied with a shy smile, tucking her hair behind her ear. As she left the mall, holding her shopping bag, Mary felt a happiness she hadn't felt in a long time. At home, Aurora saw her mother beaming and felt proud. However, she soon turned her attention to her bank balance. "I have $300 now...a good amount of capital...what should I buy without arousing suspicion?" Aurora fell into a deep thought. Her high school was about to start and her parents will again have to take loans to pay off the fees. Aurora started to list down the items she could gift. "Knockoffs...I can gift real stuff and say it's knockoffs. I can also give them gold, but all of these can only work in the short term. Ah! I feel like my head will explode." She collapsed on the table, looking like a dead fish. 'I thought spending money is easy...' She mused. (Author: It is, just give it to me! I can spend money till your rebate system becomes bankrupt!) "So what if my ring looks like knockoffs? I am telling you they are real! Yes! They are truly bought from VJ!" Olivia's voice woke Aurora up. 'Oh...Did I fall asleep?' Aurora wondered. She rubbed her eyes and saw Olivia. Her beautiful blue eyes were filled with anger. As for the fragile beauty aura? It was long gone. Stomping her foot on the floor, she angrily chatted with her friend on the other end and sat down on the sofa. "If she thinks, the ring doesn't belong to VJ, so it doesn't? Who does she think she is?" The ranting continued for the next 20 minutes before Olivia hung up the call. "Sis, what happened?" Aurora tugged on Olivia's sleeves. "Nothing...just a bad day kiddo." Olivia forced a smile and stood up to leave. "Sister, the real VJ ring...how much does it cost?" Aurora asked casually. "Just $250. I will buy it someday." A hint of determination appeared in Olivia's eyes. Someday she would wear all the real stuffs...no knockoffs! No one will be able to point a finger at her then. Olivia strode off to the room and started to browse the sites to rent a real VJ ring. VJ was a luxurious brand especilizing in rings. Even the cheapest ring of the brand cost $200. With their current situation, buying was a out of option. So she was only left with one choice...renting. "Sister, why don't you ask fairy godmother to give you a ring?" Aurora's voice echoed in the hallways. Olivia felt amused. Her younger sister, indeed had a two or three screw lose in her head. Fairy godmother? She was over that sh*t at the age of 7! "Aurora does your fairy godmother looks like the one in cinderalla's story." Aurora thinking Olivia was believing her, puffed her chest, entered the room and announced, "Now that you are pointing out, I feel the fairy godmother might be the same as the one in cinderalla's story. But why are you asking?" Olivia showed a disappointed expression, "Then I won't make a wish." "Why?" Aurora was anxious. "What if she got me a VJ ring but it transformed into mud the moment clock strikes 12 o'clock?" Aurora gasped dramatically, clutching her chest like Olivia had just said the most heartbreaking thing in the world. "Sister! My fairy godmother would never do something so mean! She's nothing like that old story." Olivia raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. "Uh-huh. And how do you know? Have you seen her?" Aurora blinked, realizing she might have talked herself into a corner. She quickly shook her head, her ponytail bouncing. "Well, no, but I just know! She's the best! She gave Mom that gift card, didn't she? And it didn't turn into mud!" Olivia folded her arms, smirking. "Fair point. But what if your fairy godmother thinks I don't deserve the ring? What if she's all, 'Olivia needs to learn a lesson,' and gives me something fake?" Aurora frowned, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "She wouldn't do that either," Aurora said firmly. "If you ask for a VJ ring, she'll give you a real VJ ring. I'm sure of it!" Olivia laughed lightly and patted Aurora's head. "Go and fix the screw of your head." Aurora: "..." So hateful.
