Chapter 42: A New Power, and Turns Out There’s a Rich Kid in the Chat Group

Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division. In a certain office inside the agency, a bald, dark-skinned man with a single eye sat silently at his desk. This agency, soon to be known across the world as S.H.I.E.L.D. was now under the command of Nick Fury. Laid out before him were two classified briefings: One, regarding the sudden death of Obadiah Stane. The other, on the mysterious disappearance of Tony Stark. Fury looked up from the documents and glanced at the two agents standing before him. One of them was a red-haired woman in a form-fitting black tactical suit, Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow. The other was a middle-aged man with a receding hairline and a composed demeanor, Phil Coulson. Nick Fury: "Tony Stark is a high-priority asset to our nation. His father had deep ties with us. Coulson, I want you to track him down. Find out where Stark went." Phil Coulson: "Yes, sir." Coulson gave a respectful nod and turned to leave the office. Nick Fury: "Natasha, you'll handle the Obadiah case. Something about it feels off. Stay alert." Natasha Romanoff: "Understood." She gave a nod as well and exited swiftly. It wasn't just S.H.I.E.L.D. mobilizing. The FBI and various government agencies had also deployed investigative teams to handle these two high-profile incidents. Meanwhile, Carl and Erika had just finished dinner and were strolling through the city streets under the night sky. Suddenly, Erika looked up at him with a sparkle in her eye. Erika: "Carl, since you can fly... want to go check out the Statue of Liberty? Like, really up close?" Carl: "Sure." Without hesitation, he wrapped an arm around her waist, and they soared into the sky. Within moments, they landed on the crown of Lady Liberty. After all, they were in Manhattan. The statue wasn't far at all. Erika (leaning over the railing): "Whoa! That was fast!" She peered down excitedly. Her love for high places explained her penthouse lifestyle. Then, without warning, she turned and gave Carl a quick kiss on the cheek. Erika: "Carl... should we, maybe, try it up here?" Carl blinked in surprise. Here? She really was in the mood... Well, it's not like he was going to say no. Carl: "Hmm... give me just a second." Erika: "Huh? Why?" Carl: "Alright, we're good." With that, Carl activated a special ability. An invisible field formed around them, his bio-field, and they instantly disappeared from view. It was his newest power: Invisibility. After all, being exposed on top of a national monument wasn't ideal. Satellite cameras were always watching. Carl had long hoped to gain a stealth skill... And the Silver Superman Template had finally delivered. [New Ability Unlocked: Invisibility] Around 7 PM, Carl returned to their apartment in Manhattan, carrying Erika gently in his arms. Outdoor "activities" were always... intense. Not for Carl, of course. He was worried about Erika pushing herself too hard. Carl (thinking): "Guess we've hit that part of the timeline. So Iron Man's debut is coming up." Carl (musing): "Should I intervene?" Carl: "In my past life, I always felt bad about Dr. Yinsen dying so early in the movie..." Carl: "Maybe I'll look into it."
