Chapter 6: Xiao Chen – Master Is Too Powerful

Chapter 6: Xiao Chen – Master Is Too Powerful Clang! Beneath the towering waterfall that spanned several thousand feet— Xiao Chen was exerting all his strength, swinging his sword over and over again. Each swing tested the limits of both his body and his willpower. If not for his Innate Sword Body and the physical endurance of a Dao Foundation realm cultivator, he wouldn’t have even been able to stand beneath the waterfall—let alone practice swordsmanship under it. And on top of that, every single swing had to be as perfect as possible. At first, Xiao Chen was still distracted by stray thoughts. But as he sank deeper into the rhythm of his sword practice, all distractions melted away. Soon, his world consisted of nothing but himself and his sword. Several hours passed, and Xiao Chen felt every part of his body was drained. With a splash, the torrent of the waterfall finally overwhelmed him, and he was sent crashing into the water. He let the current carry him out, then leapt back onto shore with a quick movement, using the momentum of a carp leap. He began to recover his strength. As soon as he regained some energy, he resumed his training. Day after day. Night after night. In the Miscellaneous Dao Institute— Chu Feng was trying to communicate with the system. Unfortunately, aside from the notification he received when he accepted a disciple, it hadn’t responded to him since. “Didn’t expect to get a tsundere system...” After several failed attempts, Chu Feng gave up trying to communicate with it. He picked a random book from the collection and began reading it with interest. In the blink of an eye, seven days had passed. Chu Feng felt like his body was getting stiff from lying down too long. “I wonder how that kid Xiao Chen is doing?” He thought it over and decided to check in on his disciple’s progress. After all, Xiao Chen was his first disciple—it was only natural for a master to inspect his student’s work. With ten years of cultivation now under his belt, Chu Feng couldn’t fly, but moving quickly was no issue. A short while later, he arrived at the waterfall and saw someone still swinging a sword beneath the crashing water. Under the pounding force of the fall, Xiao Chen was drenched from head to toe. But every strike he made was still powerful and steady. Looks like the kid really took my words to heart. Since he had nothing better to do, Chu Feng decided to fish a little—one of his favorite pastimes from his previous life. Splash. Just as Chu Feng reeled in a fish, Xiao Chen was once again overwhelmed by the waterfall and sent flying into the pool like a piece of driftwood, motionless. After a moment, he resurfaced and dragged himself ashore, panting heavily. When he saw Chu Feng, he took a few deep breaths before saying, “Disciple greets Master.” “No need to stand on ceremony. You must be exhausted—rest for now,” Chu Feng quickly said. Xiao Chen nodded and lay down on the bank, closing his eyes to recover. After a short while, he opened them again and asked, “Master, what brings you here?” “I came to see how your training was going,” Chu Feng replied. Then, after a pause, he asked, “Is this how you usually rest?” “That’s right. I spend all twelve hours of the day here. If I’m not swinging my sword, I’m resting on the ground. At night, I occasionally take a short nap—maybe two hours.” Xiao Chen answered, then glanced at Chu Feng carefully. Hiss... Is this what they call a sword fanatic? Chu Feng was quietly impressed, then said, “If you keep training like this, you’ll burn out completely within three months. Cultivation is important, but you have to balance it with rest.” “Master’s lesson is correct. I only wanted to comprehend sword intent as soon as possible, so I wouldn’t let you down. Does Master have any method to quickly recover strength?” Xiao Chen looked at Chu Feng with hopeful eyes. “A method to recover strength quickly? Of course—by taking pills. But we sword cultivators don’t need that sort of thing.” Chu Feng responded with absolute seriousness—despite completely making it up. The real reason? He was broke and couldn’t afford pills. Though he held the title of Miscellaneous Dao Institute chief, Wendao Academy knew he had no real cultivation, so they never gave him any pills. Each month, they only provided him with a small number of spirit stones for basic living expenses. Still, with his disciple asking, he couldn’t just sit there unable to answer—that would make him look completely useless. Chu Feng smiled and said, "As your master, I do have a method called ‘Sitting Oblivion.’ When you’re exhausted from training, you can use this method to restore your condition. It doesn’t just restore your state—it’s also a form of spiritual cultivation." Xiao Chen’s eyes lit up upon hearing that. A method that could both recover energy and temper one’s spiritual consciousness? As expected, his master was extraordinary. "Please, Master, teach me this method." Chu Feng replied with a smile, "You can either lie down or sit cross-legged. Once your mind enters stillness, begin letting go of all thoughts—release yourself from the burdens of the body and mind. Eventually, your spirit will harmonize with the Dao itself. This way, not only can you recover more effectively, but you can also cultivate your divine sense during rest." Xiao Chen was filled with excitement. "Then let me try it right away." Chu Feng waved his hand. "No need to rush. From now on, practice your swordsmanship during the day, and take a few hours at night for Sitting Oblivion." "Thank you for your guidance, Master." Xiao Chen immediately sat down cross-legged and entered a meditative state. After half an hour of rest, he got back up and resumed swinging his sword. As the sun began to set behind the mountains, Chu Feng gathered the fish he had caught and returned to the Miscellaneous Dao Institute, still pondering, Should I braise these or steam them? ... Night deepened. A true night breeze swept across the land. Beside the stream under the waterfall, Xiao Chen sat cross-legged. For several days now, he had been training until midnight, and then entering deep meditation. It had been nearly half a month since his master passed down the Sitting Oblivion technique. At first, the exhaustion in his body and the distractions around him made it difficult to truly settle into the meditative state. But as time passed, he had gradually grown more proficient. Each time he emerged from Sitting Oblivion, he felt refreshed—far more effective than ordinary rest. At this very moment, Xiao Chen had forgotten everything. He could no longer feel fatigue in either body or mind. He was in a state somewhere between clarity and mystery—almost as though he were about to merge with heaven and earth. But there was still a tiny sliver of distance remaining. That night, the mysterious sensation arrived quickly. Xiao Chen's mind emptied. His awareness seemed to detach from his body and slowly fused with the surroundings. He didn’t know how much time had passed. Suddenly, he entered a state of total selflessness. His soul felt elevated, transcendent—and his understanding of the sword deepened significantly. It wasn’t until the sun began to rise that he felt the searing heat of its rays and instinctively pulled back his consciousness. Opening his eyes, he looked at the sun rising in the east, unable to hold back the urge to train. He walked over to the waterfall, and with the first swing of his sword, he was startled to realize just how refined his technique had become—his control had reached a masterful level. Inwardly, he couldn’t help but marvel: Master is truly incredible. Just a single Sitting Oblivion technique helped me improve so much. Those old fools at Wendao Academy must be blind. How could they let someone as powerful as Master be in charge of the Miscellaneous Dao Institute? I wonder if, while swinging my sword, I could reach that same state of complete selflessness... With that thought, Xiao Chen cast aside all distractions and resumed swinging his sword. I must not let Master down. ???? Unlock Exclusive Early Access on Patreon! ???? Hello, beloved readers!
