He couldn’t help but steal a glance at her. A rosy flush still lingered on her cheeks, a testament to the passionate encounter they’d shared. The fatigue that should have followed such a night was absent, replaced by a vibrant glow that emanated from her even in sleep. Then, her eyes lighting up with a mischievous glint, she added, "Breakfast in bed, Master?" Orpheus, a flicker of a smile gracing his lips, nodded. The weight of the night still pressed down on him, but for now, he was content to play along. "Of course," he replied. "Anything for my...guest." He rose from the bed, the sheets whispering around him. The playful banter, a return to a semblance of normalcy, was a balm to the raw emotions churning within him. He disappeared into the kitchen, the clinking of pots and pans a comforting sound that filled the luxurious bedroom. Brynhild watched him go, a thoughtful look on her face. Orpheus glanced at her, a flicker of surprise crossing his features before he schooled his expression into a mask of indifference. "Good," he replied curtly. "Eat up. We have a lot to discuss." Brynhild raised an eyebrow, amusement dancing in her eyes. "Do we, Master?" she countered, her voice dripping with mock deference. He scowled, a muscle ticking in his jaw. "Don’t push your luck, Brynhild," he warned, his voice low and dangerous. But Brynhild held his gaze, unfazed. "Perhaps not, Master," she said, a hint of steel in her voice. "But wouldn’t you agree that breakfast conversation is best enjoyed on equal footing?" The tension in the room crackled, a silent battle of wills unfolding. Orpheus stared at her, his dark eyes unreadable. For a long moment, it seemed he might erupt, the monster within threatening to break free. Then, to Brynhild’s surprise, a slow smile tugged at the corner of his lips. It wasn’t a happy smile, not by a long shot. But it was a concession, an acknowledgment of her defiance. "Fine," he conceded, his voice rough. "Pull up a chair." Brynhild grinned, a triumphant spark in her eyes. She grabbed the chair from the desk and positioned it opposite Orpheus, settling in with a satisfied sigh. "Much better," she declared. "Now, about this breakfast..." As they ate, a wary truce settled between them. The playful banter had vanished, replaced by a more serious undercurrent. They both knew the night had irrevocably changed things.
