Chapter 298: COME TO ME! Indeed, it was the void bastard. Malik, on his way towards the earth Jinn, had his eyes glued onto that attack directed towards him. He knew what the bastard called upon. He felt it even in his current world of void. This was real, and he wanted nothing to do with it. So even though it was bad... to say the least, taking away his strongest method of attack, he wasn’t going to pause his Devil’s Footstep. Defending against that attack was a bad idea, especially so for a man with his... experience. Losing the sword wasn’t the end, however. Not even close. He still had his limbs. BOOM. As the sonic boom echoed, his feet finally reached the earth-skinned bastard. Just as he made contact, the Jinn tried to swing at him with his obsidian arms. But before he could, Malik stomped right up through it, square in the gut. Crack! Sent him flying. And Malik didn’t stop there. He chased after him using his burning hands to keep up, tracking his trajectory while stomping away, step after devil step—BOOM, BOOM, BOOM—each one slamming into the earth Jinn’s body, digging into skin, snapping armor, and caving ribs. Malik was pummeling the absolute shit out of the bastard with his feet. Slamming one burning hoof after another into him, sending him flailing and thrashing. A beast in flight. Eventually, however, Malik couldn’t keep up with the downward force he was generating, beginning to lose his upward momentum. So he stopped. Pulled the bastard in. And dropped one last stomp—straight through the Jinn’s chest. BOOM. A large shockwave cracked across the sky. He shot down to the frozen ground—smoking, bleeding, broken. ’Three.’ Dead. But of course, this Jinn had to say his final goodbye as well. As Malik pulled him in for the kill, somehow, the Earth Jinn lashed out—one last swipe. Shhk! An obsidian claw raked across Malik’s ribs. Deep. Hot. Tearing. His body was already in so much pain, so he only felt it a second later while watching the body drop. Malik flinched, though just for a second. But that second was all it took. Someone was already upon him. He looked down. Nature’s Jinn appeared, standing on the crown of a great tree. His arms spread wide as he called upon his arsenal. "OPEN SESAME!" Vines, roots, thorns, branches, petals, bark, moss— The air simply burst into bloom. A wide net of attack. Too many to count. Way too many to dodge. And they were all coming for him. Without his sword, Malik had no way to get through them... Or did he? "Jahannam." One word. That was all it took. His Divine Essence was called upon. Malik tore the safeguards off his ability, all of them. And then? He lit himself on fire. Not figuratively. Literally. Flames roared across his body—gold-hot, all-consuming. His cracked skin cracked further. Smoke poured off him. He was burning alive, and he... Didn’t scream. Didn’t even flinch. Every vine, thorn, petal, and root touched him, and then... Then nothing. They vanished. Ash in the wind. Nature had bloomed, and now it burned. He stood in the inferno like he was born there, his natural fire resistance saving him from death. And then, calm as anything, he raised a single finger. Pointed it at the vegan bastard’s smug face. Fwoop. A single flame. It drilled through his skull before he could even see it. The Jinn’s eyes went wide. Then empty. He withered into compost. Malik exhaled smoke. ’Four.’ He took a moment to breathe on his way down, readying himself for another clash. His Hell took pause, and only then did he notice that his forearms were now covered in thorns, scratches, and petals soaked in blood. Somehow, those had remained. ...They were poisonous. Malik’s dizziness quadrupled, his sense of direction reaching an all-time low. And to beat him down further, the cause of his dark vision met him before he could even touch the ground. The void Jinn wasn’t alone. Their leader, a Jinn of metal, swung his mace down. What followed were hundreds of metal poles that moved as he wished. To make things even worse, two slashes of chaos made their way to Malik, distorting his vision further, forcing his golden eyes onto it, demanding attention. It seemed that even the chaos Jinn’s physical attacks affected the mental. But unfortunately for him, nobody could ever think of besting Malik in that department. He blinked his eyes and simply looked away, focusing on the other attacks instead. For yes, it wasn’t just these two; the other three had attacked as well. A concentrated shot of wind. A spherical dome of void. And tentacles of water spurting out of the heavily abused ground. The Jinn of sound didn’t attack, preferring to buff his allies, knowing that Malik’s resistance to his methods was high. He was right in doing so, for indeed, Malik’s mind remained somewhat clear despite all that was thrown at him. His dark world slowed as he watched the attacks near him. ...What was he to do? Only one answer came to him. Perhaps the only correct answer. BOOM. He escaped. Using both his feet and arms, he blasted himself away from them and their attacks. The metal tried to follow, but he was too fast for it. Only the chaos Jinn could keep up. His attack had missed entirely, yes, but he himself caught up to Malik. Malik didn’t understand how he’d done that exactly, but perhaps it was in the name. He was chaos, and often chaos had no rhyme or reason... Malik knew that best. So instead of thinking, he acted. Malik paused his retreat and turned around, facing the twin-blade Jinn. Before he could attack, the Jinn swung down his dark and light swords. This time, they formed an ’X’ symbol both above and below Malik. One light, one dark. They were connected, the ’X’ above pushing down into the one below and vice versa. Malik was completely stuck. Dead center of the roaring storm. Chaos all around him, a damned beast with no leash. Though only for a moment. He flexed, Goliath’s Fall strengthening his muscles just enough to tear free from the worst of it. His timing couldn’t have been better, as the chaos Jinn was already swinging. This bastard was true to his name: wild, relentless, and incredibly fast. Malik dodged what he could. The rest? He wore it. Slash to the cheek. Slice on his side. Cut across the elbow. He managed to keep them shallow, but they remained messy and bloody. Still, he didn’t care. Malik was waiting. Waiting for his moment to strike. And that moment came right on time. For all Malik’s power and demeanor, most who faced him usually forgot one thing. Malik didn’t grow up like a noble. He wasn’t like them. At his core, he didn’t fight like a warrior. He fought like a feral beast. The blade came for his neck. So he leaned in. And bit it. Teeth on steel. Burning teeth. CRUNCH. The sword cracked in his mouth, splintering like cheap wood. The Jinn blinked, unable to process what had just happened. Giving him no break, Malik’s jaw glowed. A dragon preparing his flame. WHOOSH. He exhaled golden fire straight from his mouth, a final remnant from his self-inflicted Hell. It blasted up the shattered blade, into the Jinn’s utterly confused face. Right through the eyes, puncturing him blind. "AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" The chaos Jinn screamed, clutching at what used to be a face. His control shattered, a natural cause of his pained state. Malik moved in that sliver of hesitation. It was all he needed. BOOM. The Jinn popped like rotten fruit. Blood. Bone. Nothing else remained of him. Malik stood over it—burning, bleeding, breathing heavy. ’Five.’ He staggered. It seemed even he couldn’t handle this much pain. And that was when the Air Jinn showed up. Floating, flanked by a void not so far behind him. Bad timing. For him. Because the moment he arrived, Malik snapped out of his stumble like it was just for show. He immediately swung his right hand in an arc. FWOOSH—! A whip of concentrated fire lashed out, nearing the air Jinn. The flying bastard blinked, panicked, and tried to roll midair— Shk! Too slow. The fire caught him. Took his leg clean off at the hip. He choked back the scream, face twisted in agony, and in rage, punched at the air. WHOOM WHOOM WHOOM WHOOM— Tens of fists of wind formed in a second and dropped on Malik’s position. Before any could reach him, Malik calmly lifted the same hand. His whip of fire burst at once, spreading its heat. The concentrated oxygen lit up, superheated. And everything flash-ignited. BOOOOOOM! The sky exploded. Flame swallowed wind. The world went white and red. BOOM. When the smoke cleared a moment later, Malik was already there. Right in front of the air Jinn. One hand wrapped around his skull. No words. No hesitation. Just— ’Six.’ It burst. His damned head burst. Blood sprayed—hot, heavy—splattering across Malik’s face and chest, painting him red. The Void Jinn, caught in the splash zone, staggered back. Wiped his dead mate’s blood off his face. Shock obvious in his eyes. Malik moved to strike—now. That was the moment. But then— "SKREEEEEEEEAAAAAAARGH!" A piercing, inhuman screech tore through the air like a blade through bone. Malik’s ears burst. Blood streamed down the sides of his face. His knees buckled. This time, the stumble was real. And they immediately jumped on it. The Water Jinn slammed his palm into the ground. What was left of the frozen battlefield melted in an instant. A tide rushed outward. A damn ocean forming beneath Malik’s feet. The water coiled around him, a trap sprung shut. Malik flared his legs, ready to rise up—but CLANG! Metal slammed down from above. They crashed into each other, bearing down on him. If he tried to fly now, no doubt he’d get shredded. ...Huh. He paused. For the first time in this entire Hell-fight... Malik saw no way out. Not enough fire left to burn himself again. That trick was used. Besides, that might help against the water, but it’d be a battle of attrition, and that was the last thing he wanted right now. He had no time to gamble with the void Jinn—not while the bastard was gripping his sword. Spine Splitter. Malik knew better than to fight someone holding it head-on. He looked up at the metal. Down at the water. Right. He was boxed. Caged. Simple as that. Was he really going to blink here? After all that fighting? His hand curled into a fist. No. Not here. Not after everything. Not after their sacrifices. Malik had one path left. One weapon. One lifeline. He needed the sword. His sword. The water rose. The metal closed in. And Malik’s mind snapped to clarity. Nothing else mattered. No more strategy. No more survival. Just that blade. His. HE NEEDED THE DAMN SWORD. AND DAMN, WOULD HE FUCKING TAKE IT BACK! As their attacks fell upon him— "ZULFIQAR!" Malik roared. "COME TO ME!"
