Your grandfather’s here to stay with me; don’t disturb our couple time." Yun Shifei: "..." Alright then, she clearly overthought things. She ended up being fed a mouthful of dog food instead. With both Old Mrs. Xu and Old Sir Xu at the hospital, there was no one left at the Xu Family’s house. Her uncle and Xu Yuejiao helped Yun Shifei unpack her things and then called for a servant to prepare some food. Yun Tiancheng stayed in the living room chatting with her uncle. Meanwhile, Xu Yuejiao helped Yun Shifei organize her luggage. She was efficient, and though it was Yun Shifei’s stuff, Xu Yuejiao seemed even more familiar with it than her. As she tidied up, Xu Yuejiao said, "Actually, I called Aunt earlier, but she said she was too busy with work to take time off." For adults, getting time off work wasn’t always easy. Sometimes, work had to be the top priority. Yun Shifei didn’t say anything. "I heard Aunt recently started a new job and seems really busy. She hasn’t worked for so long—I wonder if she’s adapting okay." Yun Shifei pictured Xu Ya in her mind. She’d been a full-time housewife for so many years. Since the family had money, she hadn’t even done much housework, only occasionally cooking when the whim struck her. Now, she was working to earn money on her own. After being out of the workforce for so long, how did she even find a job? And how was she adapting to it? Just thinking about it seemed incredibly challenging. Yun Shifei thought back to the last time she saw Xu Ya. An array of emotions surged within her, leaving her uncertain of what to say. Xu Yuejiao had brought up Xu Ya as a way to feel out how Yun Shifei was getting along with her aunt these days. The last time her aunt had called, Old Mrs. Xu had mentioned that her aunt had finally wised up and sent the adopted daughter away. Old Mrs. Xu had even suggested that Xu Yuejiao bring up Xu Ya in front of Yun Shifei once in a while. Since the mother-daughter relationship had soured so much, repairing it would take a long time. Xu Yuejiao could only sympathize. She thought her aunt was a good person. Her cousin was also really, really wonderful. But their relationship and experiences were so complicated. As an outsider, there wasn’t much she could do. After all, she’d never experienced the pain of being abandoned by her biological mother in favor of someone else. Nor had she endured the heartbreak of being cast out after years of marriage. All she could do was try to bring it up casually. But seeing Yun Shifei’s silence, Xu Yuejiao realized she didn’t want to discuss it. It seemed Xu Ya must have hurt Yun Shifei deeply back then.
