Chapter 1159: Chapter 1159: Change of Heart
“Okay, call me back as soon as you’re done asking!”
“Hmm.”
After the call ended, Su Xinglei gently shook Chen Jie awake. “Wife, wake up.”
Chen Jie was sleeping deeply, and it took Su Xinglei several shakes to rouse her.
“Husband, I’m so sleepy, what’s up?” Chen Jie said groggily.
“Wife, wake up, didn’t your senior brother promise to perform surgery on Xiong Zhan’s mother? Why did he go back on his word?”
“Go back on his word? Impossible!” Chen Jie shook her head incessantly, He Kun had made a promise, and he couldn’t possibly deceive her! He Kun had never lied to her!
“What’s so impossible about it? Old Tian is at the hospital; he heard Xiong Zhan say it himself, the switch of the chief surgeon is absolutely true!” Su Xinglei spoke with conviction.
“Just wait, I’ll ask.” Chen Jie vigorously rubbed her head and sat up straight against the bed’s backrest.
“Wife, here’s your phone.” Su Xinglei handed her the phone attentively, this matter concerned the ownership of the chairman’s position, and Su Xinglei took it very seriously.
Chen Jie took the phone, yawned, and then slowly brought up He Kun’s number from the contact list.
Chen Jie didn’t want to call He Kun in front of her husband; she was afraid he might say something cheesy.
But now, Chen Jie couldn’t not call.
Chen Jie’s eyes darted around as she thought of a way to avoid giving herself away. She dialed the number, and after two rings, the call connected.
Before He Kun could speak, Chen Jie started rattling off like beans pouring out of a bamboo tube, speaking non-stop.
“Senior brother, I heard you went back on your word? What’s going on? You had agreed so assuredly. If there was any difficulty, you should have told me beforehand.
By doing this, how can I face my husband in the future?”
“I didn’t go back on my word; it was the patient’s family who changed their minds, they insisted on changing the chief surgeon, I was helpless!”
He Kun was already feeling depressed, and hearing Chen Jie say this only made him more so.
“Impossible! Remember, Xiong Zhan went through every means possible to plead with you; you were the doctor he trusted the most, how could he just casually change the chief surgeon?”
“I don’t know what he was thinking; you ask him yourself.” Knowing that Chen Jie’s husband was beside her, He Kun refrained from uttering any cheesy words and swiftly hung up the phone.
Hearing the dial tone from the other side, both Chen Jie and Su Xinglei were baffled, completely unsure of what had happened.
“Husband, did you hear what my senior brother said? It wasn’t him who went back on his word, but Xiong Zhan who changed his mind!”
“Can that be true? If it really was Xiong Zhan who changed his mind, why would Old Tian mislead me? I’d better make a trip to the First Hospital right now.”
Su Xinglei, wearing a glum expression, got dressed and drove toward the First Hospital.
It was a short distance from Su Xinglei’s home to the First Hospital, taking less than ten minutes to arrive.
Su Xinglei hurried to VIP room 868 without stopping.
“Eh? Vice Chairman Su, what brings you here?”
“I came to see Auntie and, incidentally, to clear up some matters.”
Upon seeing Su Xinglei, Tian Peng anxiously asked, “What did your sister-in-law say? What’s going on with Professor He? Why did he go back on his word? Did that young hussy Su Ziyan give him some kind of benefit?”
“Chen Jie just called Professor He in front of me; he said it wasn’t him who changed his mind, but Old Bear who did! Old Bear, explain yourself.”
Su Xinglei looked at Xiong Zhan with a suspicious expression.
“Xinglei, you must be dreaming! How could it possibly be Old Bear who changed his mind? It must have been that Professor He who backed out!” Tian Peng kept shaking his head.
