Chapter 46: Blood

Chapter 46: Blood First it had been Amethyst knocking on the door that had interrupted my kiss with you, and now there was someone else knocking on the door right when... something was going on again between us. I decided that whoever it was, could wait. Trying to figure out what had gone wrong with you was more important. Unfortunately, the person at the door was not happy to wait. Splinters flew across the room as the door was blasted to pieces by this uninvited guest. You, as blood crazed as you were, stopped trying to get at my blood and instead scurried out of my grip and cowered in the corner behind the bed. There was only one door in and out of the room and that was the door I was currently blocking with my long, serpentine body, so I decided it was probably safe for me to duck my head out to look at what disaster had decided to visit. It was the boy, the one who’d stolen your sword. The boy glared at me and spoke. I didn’t understand a single word. It turned out, despite all his superpowers, he was in fact human. I snarled at him with bared teeth, hoping he’d maybe just leave. He eyed me then looked around the flat. "Where is the other boy?" he asked, this time in English. Now that I knew what he was saying I crouched menacingly and growled. The boy’s eyes narrowed and he looked to the bedroom behind me. It seemed like my body language had given me away. "Come out!" he shouted and raised a hand, the one with bells strung around it. I dodged before the blast of sound hit me this time, but the vibrating air still scraped down my body painfully and I hissed. The boy, taking advantage of this, sped towards the door to your bedroom and went in. "Where is the real sword?!" he bellowed, advancing to your cowering figure. Rage exploded in my chest and I roared as I leap towards the boy. But before my jaws could close around his neck, a flurry of chains twisted around my body like snakes and dragged me backwards. I turned and saw someone standing in the doorway. It was the librarian. He had one hand held to the side making some kind of sign while the other held out a clear crystal. No. There was nothing for it. I transformed back into a human and, before the man could react, slithered out between the chains and darted into the bedroom. The boy had just dragged you up by the collar and even in all the chaos, that look of fear in your eyes made my heart hurt. I leapt forward and transformed back into a dragon again. Taken by surprise, the boy was too slow to react as I grabbed you with my two clawed forelimbs, made a sharp turn in the air, then punched through the windows, creating a new exit out of the flat. -- The weather forecast for the day had been bright and sunny with a slight cool front coming in for the evening, but, as the poor people of Kowloon discovered, this was far from accurate. Lightning crackled through the sky while thunder droned on and on, terrifying both human and animal alike. Even the least superstitious of the scientists at the weather stations dotting the city in their hearts wondered if some god had been offended, or something along those lines. As it would happen, it was no upset god that was the source of these abnormalities, but a terrified dragon. After barely escaping the clutches of the bell boy and the librarian, Misha had sped upwards into the clouds. Strategically, it was a good move since the clouds would help conceal him and his precious bounty, especially once the weather turned sour, but it wasn’t a strategy at all. Misha was running on pure instinct. And it was pure instinct that drove him to drop down into the dense mountains when he suddenly felt Bran’s body go slump. Had he been flying too high? Misha spiraled down then slowed before hitting the ground with his back feet and carefully curling onto his back so that he didn’t squash Bran on landing. The ground was half dirt, half leaves and it made for a pretty soft landing, all things considered, and feeling his feet touch ground also seemed to mentally ground the frantic dragon. First, he padded over to some of the trees to get out of the rain, then lay Bran down on the ground and nervously tried to look for signs of life. Bran’s chest moved up and down and after a minute his eyes opened. Misha breathed a sigh of relief and lay down on the ground. He was exhausted. The mountains that were always in the background no matter where you went in Kowloon had been further away than he thought and he’d done all that flying while carrying a human, not to mention that he hadn’t had any sleep since the night before. But he didn’t let his exhaustion distract him from seeing to Bran. Based on just a cursory look at him, he didn’t seem to be suffering from having gone up too high in the atmosphere without any protection, so he likely just fainted because of... Well, Misha wasn’t sure because of what. He wanted to ask but the person he usually asked was now sitting on the ground with wide eyes and knees tucked up under his chin. He would look adorable if the situation wasn’t so out of the ordinary. "Blood?" said Bran, looking at Misha. Misha looked back at him, completely at a lost. Was he possessed? Misha thought desperately. Some kind of vampire virus or something...? Bran usually sported a bit of a bored look with half-closed eyes most of the time, but now that he was in this strange kind of blood-sucking mode, he had them opened wide. They were so round that, despite the crazy request, Misha felt obligated to oblige. Maybe, he could give him just a bit? Not feeling too sure about any of this, Misha transformed back into a human since the bite on his neck had scabbed over already and he didn’t want Bran hurting his teeth on dragon scales. Bran immediately jumped up but Misha held out his hands to hold him back. "Wait," he said. "Don’t bite me on the neck. You might hit something important. How about... here. You can bite me here." Misha held out an open hand with the palm up. Without hesitation, Bran leaned forward and bit Misha’s index finger. A pearl of blood sprouted from the bite and Bran licked it like a cat, looking up at Misha to gauge his reaction. Misha stood stock still, absolutely frozen as Bran, seeing no reaction, slowly put the entirety of Misha’s finger into his mouth then began to suck. A shudder went down Misha’s spine and he suddenly became very aware that he was completely naked and that any biological response that may or may not be happening downstairs was completely out in the open and able to be seen by all. He counted to thirty then pulled his finger from Bran’s mouth. "I-I’ll give you more later," he said, then quickly transformed into a dragon, glancing under his body to see if this form was still sporting a certain hardening. It was. Misha immediately dropped to the ground and covered his head with his clawed feet. He heard a bit of rustling, and cracked open one eye to find Bran crouching by him again. "Blood?" he asked, in a small voice. Oh god... I can’t give you any more right now. I promise I’ll give you more later, just... Misha thought franticly to himself. "Okay," said Bran with a nod. Misha’s head perked up and he stared at Bran. Did he just reply to my thoughts? Bran looked up at him and nodded again. He can read my mind! You can read my mind! Misha jumped up onto his feet and his tail swished around. An especially close crack of thunder made him jump and he looked up at the sky. It didn’t look like the storm would be letting up any time soon, which made sense since Misha wasn’t feeling all too good himself. He turned back to Bran. I need to find you a better shelter, then I can start figuring all this out... Maybe. Bran stood up. "Blood," he said determinedly. I know, I’ll give you more later. Bran shook his head. "Blood," he said again, this time pointing at his own head, then at Misha’s. Ah, you mean, you can hear my thoughts because you drank my blood? A nod. Huh... maybe letting him drink my blood’s not such a bad idea... "Blood?" asked Bran, excitedly. If a dragon could blush, he would have blushed. Later, he thought furtively and started walking in a random direction, Bran following close behind him.
