Chapter 63: You Want Proof?

Chapter 63: Chapter 63: You Want Proof? The sudden silence in the amphitheater was almost deafening. Every delegate, from the towering dragons to the tiny pixies, turned to stare at the figure in the black coat who had appeared on the central platform. The Arbiter’s golden reptilian eyes swept across the assembly with an expression of barely contained irritation. "Thank you," he said dryly. "I was starting to think I’d have to wait until you all argued yourselves to death." The demon lord Vex’thul was the first to recover from the shock. "Who dares interrupt the Convergence Council?" he bellowed, shadows writhing around his massive form. "I do," the Arbiter replied simply. "And considering what I’m about to tell you, you might want to listen carefully." Seraphiel, the angel representative, stepped forward with her wings spread wide. "You are not of any recognized species. By what authority do you speak here?" The Arbiter looked at her with something that might have been amusement. "By the authority of someone who’s been managing inter-dimensional relations since before your species learned to fly. I am the Arbiter, mediator between lower and middle realm worlds." A murmur ran through the assembly. Even in their respective mythologies and legends, most of the species had heard whispers of the Arbiter—a neutral entity who maintained the balance between realities. "You’re real?" whispered Titania, the fairy queen, her voice barely audible. "Very real, and very concerned about your current situation," the Arbiter replied. "You see, what you’ve all been arguing about—who gets to be in charge of this merged world—is about to become irrelevant if you don’t act quickly." King Thorek hefted his war hammer suspiciously. "What do you mean?" The Arbiter gestured, and suddenly the air above the platform filled with what looked like a three-dimensional star map. Points of light representing worlds and realms floated in complex patterns, connected by streams of energy. "Due to the merging of ten worlds, your new reality has become exponentially more powerful," he explained, his voice taking on a lecturing tone. "The combined magical energy, the diverse ecosystems, the multiple species—all of it has created something unprecedented." He pointed to a glowing orb that pulsed brighter than all the others. "This is your world now. Notice anything different about it?" Evon studied the display and felt his heart sink. The merged world was glowing so brightly it was almost painful to look at, and it was clearly larger than any of the other points of light in what appeared to be the lower realm section of the map. "It’s too powerful," Evon said quietly. "For the lower realm." "Exactly," the Arbiter nodded approvingly. "Your world is going to ascend to the middle realm whether you want it to or not. The dimensional barriers are already adjusting to accommodate the increased power level." Alpha Fenris snarled, "And that’s bad because?" "Because," the Arbiter continued, highlighting a section of the map that showed the middle realm, "the middle realm is full of world-masters who have spent millennia conquering and absorbing other powerful worlds. The moment your world ascends, they’re going to see it as the ultimate prize." The plant-being Oakenheart creaked ominously. "How many of them?" "Dozens. Maybe hundreds. All of them vastly more experienced than anyone here in managing world-scale power." The Arbiter’s expression grew grim. "Without proper leadership and unified defense, your beautiful merged world will be carved up and distributed among the existing powers within a decade." The silence that followed was heavy with implication. Finally, Quendor spoke, his draconic voice rumbling with concern. "What do you suggest?" "Simple," the Arbiter replied. "You need to choose a world-master before the ascension happens. Someone who can claim sovereignty over the entire merged realm and defend it against external threats." ### The Objection Immediately, the careful quiet erupted into chaos again. "Angels are the natural protectors of worlds! We can manage world power more precisely." Seraphiel proclaimed. "Demons understand power better than anyone! We can fight better to protect the world." Vex’thul roared. "The fae control the very essence of magic itself!" Titania chimed in. The Arbiter held up one hand, and somehow that simple gesture silenced them all again. "You’re missing the point. This isn’t about who deserves it or who wants it. This is about who’s qualified for it." He turned to look directly at Evon. "There’s only one being in this room who has the necessary requirements to become a world-master of a merged realm." Every eye in the amphitheater focused on Evon, who suddenly felt like he was back in school being called on by a teacher. "Me?" he said weakly. "You," the Arbiter confirmed. "You’ve already bonded with four of the five goddesses who were sealed here. You’ve successfully defended this reality against corruption from the god’s ascendant. You’ve demonstrated the ability to channel multiple forms of divine power simultaneously. And most importantly, you’ve shown you can work with and protect multiple species." The objections came immediately. "He’s just a human!" scoffed Vex’thul. "Barely more than an insect!" "I’ve never even heard of him before today!" added King Thorek. "What makes him more qualified than any of us?" demanded Alpha Fenris. The Arbiter looked around the assembly with an expression of growing impatience. "Because he’s the only one here who’s actually fought beings from the middle realm and won. Because he’s already partially ascended to divine status through his bonds with the sealed goddesses. And because—" "This is ridiculous!" Seraphiel interrupted. "I refuse to acknowledge some random human as superior to the forces of Light!" "Same here," growled Vex’thul. "No demon bows to a mortal." "The dwarfs don’t recognize his authority," King Thorek added, striking his hammer against the stone for emphasis. Similar declarations came from around the amphitheater. Only Quendor and Yulia remained quiet, both of them watching Evon with measuring gazes. The Arbiter looked at Evon and raised one golden eyebrow. The meaning was clear: Show them. Evon stood slowly, feeling the weight of dozens of hostile gazes upon him. Through his connection to the four sealed goddesses, he could feel their support and encouragement. "You want proof?" he said quietly. Without waiting for an answer, he activated full Destiny Resonance. The effect was instantaneous and overwhelming. Five colored auras erupted around Evon’s body—Naia’s deep blue, Lyria’s brilliant red, Veyra’s electric cyan, Sythara’s royal purple, and the faint but growing gold of Yena’s distant presence. The energies didn’t just surround him; they suffused the entire amphitheater, making the air itself hum with power. His eyes blazed with silver-gold light as the Eyes of Fate activated, and suddenly every delegate in the assembly could feel his awareness touch their minds—not invasively, but with the gentle pressure of someone infinitely more powerful choosing to be careful. The transformation was more controlled than during his battle with the Corrupted God, but no less impressive. His human form took on draconic resilience, his movements flowed with elemental grace, and the very space around him seemed to bend in acknowledgment of his authority. But it wasn’t just the display of power that silenced the assembly. It was the quality of that power. This wasn’t the raw, unfocused energy of a newly awakened being. This was refined, disciplined, and vast in a way that spoke of battles fought across dimensions. King Thorek’s war hammer slipped from nerveless fingers. Vex’thul’s shadows writhed and cowered away from the light emanating from Evon. Seraphiel’s wings drooped as she recognized power that rivaled her own celestial nature. Even the elemental representatives, beings of pure magical force, felt themselves diminished by comparison. "Oh," whispered Titania. "Oh my. This immense magic power..." Alpha Fenris dropped to one knee without conscious thought, his wolf instincts recognizing an alpha infinitely superior to himself. Evon held the full resonance for only a few seconds before allowing it to fade. As the colored auras dimmed and his eyes returned to normal, he remained standing, not even breathing hard. The silence stretched for long moments. Finally, Quendor spoke, his ancient draconic voice filled with something like awe. "I withdraw any claim to leadership. The young god-touched is clearly our superior." Yulia nodded gracefully. "The elven courts acknowledge his authority." One by one, the other delegates added their voices. Some grudgingly, others with obvious relief at not having to face such power in opposition. The Arbiter smiled for the first time since arriving. "Excellent. Now, we need to talk about finding that fifth seal. Because once Evon completes his ascension to full world-master status, things are going to get very interesting very quickly." ____________
